Falun Gäng 2002

LEXX meet in Falun, Sweden 13-15 september 2002

Attending: Tommen (hosting), Olov, Jennix, Tribs, Svart/Soul/Jon, Lena, Ivona, I

I need Lexxians! They're like a large fuzzy-friendly family, people who understand me and think like me. With them it's not just testosterone and make-up, which seems to be what 'normal' people are obsessed with. Well OK, so the goths are obsessed with make-up too but you know what I mean.

So when a LEXX meet was announced in Falun, I jumped on the train. It's only 5-6 hours away by train...

Tommen was kind enough to invite us to her home, so we could watch TV and eat and eat and eat, and have a good time together. Her kids were shipped off somewhere, and her fantastic husband cooked for us (and took me on a tour around Falun to look at rocks). Even their cat, who was sick, was friendly, rubbing up at us wanting to be scratched. Plus there were rodents, turtles, fish and a hidden spider.

Late in the evening the gang from Stockholm-Uppsala arrived. I didn't know Tribs was in Sweden, what a nice surprise. Lena and Ivona I had never met, two red-heads with a taste for the fantastic -- more non-'normals', what fun!

Tommen and Olov had loads and loads of video tapes and CDs full of SF. Aaaah, lots of SF! Jennix of course brought "Stargate SG-1" and some of Paul Donovan's oeuvre, and I had one measly tape of "Smallville". But mostly we watched "Enterprise" (cool), "Farscape" (woohoo! must see more! gimme!) and LEXX -- the end of series 4. By the time we got to the last episode, not an eye was dry. Awww. And awwwwwww.

Dinner on Saturday was a splendid affair. First mussels boiled with wine, garlic and lemon, mmmmm, quite the Halifax spirit there. Then salmon steaks with yummy potato mash and double-yummy morel sauce. That's some chef you've got there, Tommen! Conversation was scintillating too; lexxian gossip, adventures in school, small-town smallness-of-mind, medieval warfare, and deliberate mis-casting of "The Lord Of The Rings" -- what a hilarious game. Kevin Sorbo as Frodo?!

On Sunday, a few brave souls ventured down the Falu mine. It is world-famous, it's even a World Heritage Site. It's a copper mine that has been in operation at least a thousand years. Now it is exhausted and the upper, older levels modified for tourism. Dark and dripping and red-coloured. The bigger stopes quite give you the feeling of Moria.

And then it was time for good-byes. *sniff* When I got home I had a severe case of post lexxianic stress syndrome again. That's the risk with LEXX meets -- you don't want to leave!

Pictures were mostly eaten by the camera; here are the few that survived.

Remote mistress Tommen (keeping Lena and Jon in check)

Towards the mine (Tribs, Jon and Tommen)

Panoramic view (Tommen, Tribs and Jon)

Into the pit (view to the left)

The big round hole (and to the right)

Miners not minors! (Tommen, Jon, Tribs)

The famous 60s pop band The Ink Blots (certainly not Jon, Tommen and Tribs, that's for sure)
