4 - The Excavation

Excavation Site

Take the stairs down to the excavation.
Look behind the loaded barrel and take the ladder. You need it to leave the area if you have forgotten something.
Walk to the gate. It is locked.


Look close at the padlock. Get your gun. Aim at the lock and shoot.
Open the gate and enter. Take a step forward. It is very dark.
Look to the right and you'll see a lantern. Look close at it then take it. It is still on the table.
Get the gasoline-can and use it on the lantern to fill it. Then use the lighter on the filled lantern and you'll get light.


Walk forward until you come to a big room with paintings at the wall.
There is a door, with a picture of Maat on the short back wall. It is locked and you can't open it.
On the long opposite wall there are paintings of Gods and Goddesses.
Look in Toumchetki's book for a clue.
There is a picture of Maat with a black beetle on it.
Look at the long wall and search for the same picture. You'll find it in the middle of the top row. Get it in close-up.
The picture in the book shows that you shall place all the beetles on the painting, first the black one, then the blue, red and last the green beetle.
Put the black beetle on the carving below the painting. The painting turns black. Put the blue beetle on top of the black one. The painting turns blue.
Put the red beetle on top of the blue one. The painting turns red.
Put the green beetle on top of the red one. The painting turns yellow and you hear the door opening.
Turn around and go to the door. The black beetle goes back into inventory.
Enter the corridor.


As soon as you take a step forward the door closes and you are locked in.
Walk into the room. There are four square pillars in the room. Each pillar bears paintings of a special God or Goddess. Beside each pillar is a door with an ankh-formed lock.
On the wall opposite the entrance is a fifth door with a painting of Maat..
Look in Toumchetki's book. There is a page explaining what you have to do.

Osiris said: My key will open the chamber and within: the ultimate key.
Horus said: You must open the chamber of Horus before opening the ultimate chamber.
Isis said: My key shall open the chamber of Horus.
Re said: Horus shall provide you with the key that opens my chamber.
Each of the gods offers you a key. Each god speaks the truth. All except the one who is hiding the ultimate key. Yet this is the one you must attain.

So that in her great splendor, The guardian of the beloved of Mat shall appear to you.
Beside Mat, The gods have placed the first key. The key which opens the first chamber - The queen's chamber.
Be cautious in your acts. Respect the order. For no faults shall be allowed, If what you seek is balance And discovery of the ultimate secret.

The fat sentence gives you the first clue. You shall go to the Queen's door. But which one is the Queen?


Turn around from Maat's door and look at the pillars. The woman in white dress on the rear left pillar is Queen Isis, Osiris' wife. On the rear right are pictures of Horus the God with a falcon head.
The front left pillar shows Osiris with his crook and flail and the front right pillar shows Re the Sun God, also with a falcon head but with the sun-disc crowning it.


Go to Maat's door and take the ankh-key. Look at it in inventory. It bears a picture of Isis, the Queen of Osiris, and the book also says that it leads to the first chamber the Queen's chamber.
Go to the door in front of Isis and insert the Isis-key. The door opens. Enter and take the key from the statue.


Look at the key in inventory. It bears Horus picture. In the book Isis says that her key will open the chamber of Horus.
Go to the door opposite the pillar of Horus. Use the key to open it and take the new key from the stature. Look at it.
It bears the picture of Osiris with his flail.
Use the key to open the chamber of Osiris. Take the key and look at it. Do you recognize Re with his sun-disc.
Use the key to open the chamber of Re and take the ultimate key, just as the book says. It has the picture of Maat.
Use the key to open the fifth door, Maat's door. Back out and the door will open. The Maat-key goes back into inventory. Return to the other four doors and retrieve the keys. Look in your inventory and check that you have all five keys.
Enter the door to the next chamber.


It is the chamber you saw in the introduction with the big chest. Look at the lid. Do you recognize the symbols. They are Toumchetki's symbols but in a different order. Look in Toumchetki's book to get them in right order. Click at the symbols in the right order. 7, 6, 5, 3, 4, 2, 1.
A hidden staircase is revealed. Walk down.


Smoke is coming from the corridor. Walk forward. When you get the time-bar on the screen click at the goggles in inventory and the timed sequence ends. You can't see where you are going. The goggles have a directional scale. This must mean something.


Go to inventory an look at the parchment you found in Mehdi's chest at the museum. Look at the symbols. Open Toumchetki's book at the last page and you find the translation.
The symbols in the first row mean 120. That means you shall choose the direction 120 degrees.
Then there are 6 men. This might mean you should walk six steps in that direction.
If we translate the rest we get.
130 - 3 steps
220 - 5 steps
270 - 2 steps.
Move the pointer to 120 and click forward. This means 1 step in that direction.
Do exactly the same thing five times more. Always first turn the pointer to the right direction. You can see a faint color changing in the goggles when you are done.
Then three times, choose the direction 130 and take a step forward.
Five times, choose the direction 220 and take a step forward.
Twice choose the direction 270 and take a step forward.


When you successfully have finished the goggles sequence you are standing at a narrow circular path. Walk forward into a big circular room. You'll see Karl being sent to the sky by the Vizier from the enormous pit in the center of the room.


Walk to the other side of the pit where you can see a small step.
Walk out on the step. There is an ankh-formed keyhole.
Use he ankh-keys in the same order as in the pillar room. Start with getting Isis key and put it the keyhole. You get some more steps. Walk down to the next keyhole. Use the Horus-key in that hole and walk further down.


Save the game. The third time use the Osiris keyhole and walk down.
Cameron says: "I have to stop that if I could."
Pan right and search at the table in the middle of the room until you get an active cursor. Get your gun, aim at the statuette and shoot it down.


Check that the metal box in the inventory is open. Save your game.
Place Re's key in the keyhole and walk down. You get a time bar on the screen. Continue walking onto the circular landing and walk right until you have the Vizier on your left side. Search on him until you get an active cursor. Get the metal box. You'll get the scarab that is inside the box. Use it on the Vizier and stun him.
You get a new time bar. This time get the female statuette from inventory and use it on the Vizier. Now you are rid of him.


Walk towards Moira. You have to revive her. Get the black Beetle and use it on Moira. She wakes up. You can see Alan and Moira sailing away on the ship. Happy ending.
