In older days this holiday had an other purpose. After the long winter Man and cattle had survived of what was stored in authumn, the cattle had to be additional fed with small bushes and branches. The remains of this coarse nutrition, that the cattle refused was gathered in huge piles and put to fire and people went out of ther houses and made a lot of noise, firing guns and eventually throwing an out door party, all in the purpose of chasing the wolves away, because this was time of the year when the cattle was put out into the meadows.
