Presentation of the Kennel Virtus.
|
Hi, my name is Yvonne Kekkonen and I live outside Stockholm, in Sweden. I
am the proprietor of the kennel-prefix "Virtus" (which by the way is Latin and
means approx. bravery, capacity and capability).
At present I have two Thai Ridgeback Dogs, but earlier I have had
both Dobermanns and an Australian Cattle Dog (if you want to read
more about them, look here: kennel Virtus;
Other pictures). I enjoy training my dogs and to bring them with me to all kinds of activities. Through the years I have had the opportunity to try my hand at and compete in almost every sort of dog event, for example agility, flyball, obedience, sledding, exhibitions and different kinds of working trials. I have noticed two important qualities in a dog; a sound and steady temper and a strong and healthy body. A wish to improve and strengthen these characteristics has been fundamental in my dogbreeding. In 1995 I was introduced to the rare dogbreed, Thai Ridgeback Dog and I came down flop! I wonder if there is anyone who can resist a dog who is as sound and beautiful as this breed?! The breed has also succeed with the impossible, by uniting the power and strength from the Dobermann with the elegance from a Pharaoh Hound, and bringing together the Basenjis aloof attitude with the Rhodesian Ridgeback's famous and determinate stubbornness. In 1996 I bought my first Thai Ridgeback Dog called Vilma. Vilma is a fascinating dog and the magic around her is still present.... Up to now Vilma and I mostly have been to dogshows, with very good results, but I hope we gradually will manage to compete in agility and lure coursing as well. When we are training and Vilma is in the right mood, everything goes quite well. However, she still puts her own ideas into her mind about what we should train and it is not always the same things I want her to do.... Sometimes she thinks it is more fun to play and disturb the other dogs, chew at sticks or look around for newcomers, than train with me... But I am not going to give up so easy! With both stubbornness and patience I have accomplished progress with Vilma, and I will never regret that I bought the breed Thai Ridgeback Dog! (Do you want to know more about Vilma and see nice pictures of her, look at kennel Virtus; Pictures of Vilma - TRD). In 1999 I bought my second Thai Ridgeback Dog; Dennis. Dennis is black and born in the USA. He has a fantastic temperament and it is easy to train him. He is a very sweet dog and he loves to sleep in the bed and to lay out in the sun. I guess you could say he is a little bit lazy! ;-) (Do you want to know more about Dennis and see nice pictures of him, look at; kennel Virtus; Pictures of Dennis - TRD) If you think you can appreciate and respect the personality of the Thai Ridgeback Dog, I can really recommend this breed!
