"It's really kinda' tragic, all the kids today coding demos thinking '2nd Reality' or even 'Arte' are good examples of what the first demos looked like. I mean, anyday now, someone's going to code an FLI logo with a DYCP scroller, thinking they've invented something new...
There is one reason there is a global demoscene today, and that reason is the C64."

IF YOU'VE BEEN THROUGH THE music section on this site, you've probably noticed something of an obsession with Commodore's ancient C64 machine.
Eventually, in early 1997, I just couldn't resist coding a small demo for that machine. Never having owned one, I spent days downloading documentation on the hardware, rewriting my graphics packer from the Atari, and writing small tools and utilities that I needed. All that work to make one demo for a machine that's hardly available anywhere in the world. Oh well, I guess that's why they call it nostalgia.

AFTER WEEKS OF SEARCHING, I finally found a C64 music editor that I liked. This Kraftwerk cover is the first song I finished in it. I had lots of fun doing those silly phone-beeps.

JUST FOR FUN, I PUT together 3 or 4 small songs for a computer game, but they were never used in the final release. I liked one of the songs so much I thought it deserved a C64 rendition.
The filtered bass and hihats came as a nice surprise when I finally got around to listening to it outside of the C64-emulator. 8-)

THIS IS THE SECOND SONG I made in JCH's music editor for the C64. Those with a good ear for basslines might recognize a little something from the music section.

FINALLY GETTING TO GRIPS WITH JCH's editor and the way it handles arpeggios, I put together this little tune. As Tomas Danko JR (one of the many deservedly legendary C64 musicians I've had the pleasure of talking to) pointed out: "It's 'Rock me Amadeus!'". 8-)

Not much to say about this one, really, except it's supposed to sound this way, really.
Used as some sort of joke in the "note-file" for Talk.

I COULDN'T RESIST THE CHALLENGE of converting an 8-channel mod to a 3-channel C64 song. Can you blame me? (Oh, you can? Well, but, I... [ouch!])

THIS IS THE SONG USED in Talk, my first (and probably, but not hopefully) last C64-demo. It's written to fit into the demo, although some of the synchronized effects originally intended never fit into the memory of the C64... 8-(

HERE'S ANOTHER COVER, THIS TIME of Swedish group Nordman's song "Under norrskenet". I competed with it at Hype '97, and it placed third, which is ok, considering all the other entries were xm's or mod's.
