** ABYSSINIAN **

This is an
old cat breed and is thought to have been imported into the UK from Abyssinia, now Ethiopia. The shape, size and distinctive coat bear a considerable resemblance to the mummified cats found in Egyptian tombs, and the wall paintings that depicted Bast and other feline gods. It is possible that the Abyssinian is directly descended from the sacred cats of Ancient Egypt, which gives a certain romance to the breed. Typical of most foreign breeds, Abyssinians have highly intelligent, outgoing personalities. They do not like to be alone, and will pine without company. They are a very loving breed that enjoy a domestic lifestyle. However, they do not like to have too many cats if an Abyssinian is your chosen variety.

Type and Standard of Points: This should be a medium-sized cat with a close-lying ticked coat that shows a lustrous sheen. The general appearance should be of an elegant cat: the head is a round, wedge shape; the ears large and wide-set with tufted tips; the neck long, and the legs long and slender; and the tail, tapering at the tip, in proportion to the length of the body. The eye colours should be amber, green or hazel, and the coat is now accepted in many colours: usual, sorrel, blue, fawn and silver.
