All competitions in Sweden are arranged by either The Swedish workingdogclub(Svenska brukshundsklubben" Breedingclubs (IPO/SCHH) or the Kennelclub (obedience, agility)

SBK= Swedish Working dog club is uniqe. It is a part of  the Swedish Kennelclub SKK
But its almost as large as the Kennelclub it self, and its responsible for different areas than the Kennelclub

SBK started after Worldwar I 1918

Its main purpuose was to educate and and to gather all the people who was interested in training their dogs for Search and rescue, police dogs, military service dogs and much more under one organisation.  At first it was called "Swedish union of protection and medical dogs"FSSSH" and suitable breeds from those early days was Rottweiler. Airdale terrier German shepherds and Dobermans.

1940 the army needed dogs for military tasks, and it only wanted to deal with one organisation, so all the breedingclubs also decided to join FSSSH and 28/2 1940 SBK (svenska brukshundsklubben) was "founded"

Its main purpose was now to educate SAR dogs, protectiondogs, "messenger dogs"(dogs that ran from one unit to another with a message around its neck) and guard dogs. It also had the responsibility to handle breeding  of airedaleterrier, boxer, dobermannpinscher, riesenschnauzer, rottweiler och German Shepherds.

Today SBK is the responsible organisation for :

1. Mentality of the dog (creating tests)
2. DogHandler education
3. Responsible for the development of  several breeds that are considered as workingdogs
4  Arrange competitions and courses
5 Sevicedogs to the military

SBK is also a part of the Swedish total defence as an volontary organisation

Tracking  competitions containes

  • Search for the track
  • Tracking
  • Search for objects
  • Obedience

Our tracking competition goes in a variety of terrain, but because we have a lot of big forrests its common to put the trials there. The tracks are made  by an, to the dog, unknown person, it containes several turns (at least 8 and ) and in level III a pointy one also.
8 objects are to be found at a limited time.(small wooden sticks)

In level III the dog must search for a track in a square of  30X40 meters, if he cant find the track within 4 minutes he is disqualified, he then has 35 minutes to finish the track of 1,5 km and to find all objects. The only thing that is judged is the searching for the track. Once you have found the track and are heading of in the woods,  you are on your own.

There is a person standing at the end of your track to be able to clock you(so you are within timelimit) you leave all the objects to that person, the judge then counts the objects and looks at them so they are not too much "chewed"

If you dont bring back the last object (no 8) you are disqualified and are not allowd to take part in the next exercises

Searching for objects Often in the woods (four objects in a sqare of 50mx 50m and five minutes to locate them) objects like a wallet, a glove or something like that. The dog has to search on your direction and can not search "by himself"

Obedience, in level III It contains these exercises

  •  Heeling  of leash
  • Recall with a stand and laydown on the way.
  • Sendaway through a group of people.
  • crawling 10 meters with one turn and one stop
  • Barking on command, it goes: bark-quiet-bark-quiet
  • Jump 85 cm jump over a fence sit and jump back
(the height depends on the  breed)
  • Retrieveing a lightmetal dumbell
  • Retrieveing a heavy dumbell 4kg(the weight depends on breed)
  • Climbing a ladder (laying horizontally 1,8 meters above the ground

SÖK SöH--SEARCH

Fotografi på schäfer som hittar en människa under en sten

Search is a dicipline where the dog is supposed to search for "lost people" in an predefined area, i level III the search area is 300 meters long with a path/trail in the middle and its 100 meters wide.
(50 meters on both side)
The dog must search on his handlers command in an effective way so that the whole area is being searched, the dog must not run around aimlessly it has to search in the direction the handler decides and in as straight lines as possible, preferbly every square meter should be covered, In the area are 3 helpers, two hidden invisible to the dog and handler  often berried in a box under ground.  One  helper is above ground and must not be visible to the eye. The dog and handler has 17 (effective time) minutes to find all 3 helpers.

The dog can either stay with the helper and bark until the handler comes (in Protection work its obligated with a barking dog and the dog has a muzzle on during search) or the dog could have a small "biterbar" hanging from the neck, the dog takes the bitebar in its mouth runs to his handler who put him on leash and follow the dog back to the helper.
If you cant find any helpers  you are not allowed to continue the competition

Searching for objects Often in the woods (four objects in a sqare of 50mx 50m and five minutes to locate them) objects like a wallet, a glove or something like that.

Rapport (messengerdog) Fotografi på springande schäfer

This dicipline requires two doghandlers, Rapport origins from the time ,when during wartime,  the dog should run between  trenches with messages around its neck. In Rapport level III  two handlers walk the dog to point A one handler takes the dog to point B 1100 meters away, he then sends the dog back to the handler at point A.
While the dog and handler is at point A the other handler moves from B to a new point C, 400 meters away, so now the dog has to run 1500 meters from A to C, then the dog is sent back from C to A another 1500 meters and the handler at point C moves again to a new point D 500 meters away, and the dog is sent from A to D 2000 meters
So totally a dog in level 3 is running 6600 meters.
Standard time is that it has to be finished in 36 minutes, but an average time is being calculated and the fastest dog wins.

In this dicipline it also requires the dogs to be tied up at a base- station, be quiet even though the other dogs are sent , or he sees his handler leaving.

Obedience and searching for objects as in the other diciplines
