Kennel Unisak
Our first Siberian came from Finland in 1971. Next year we bought two more and a sled, even now from Finland.
The first litter, two males, was born 1973. When the first sled dog competition in Sweden was arranged 1974 these males, together with their father, won the race. It was seven teams participating and everybody was driving 3-dog teams.
In the beginning dog shows were rather important for Siberian Husky owners in Sweden. With an increasing number of sled dog competitions, followed an increasing interest to obtain capable sled dogs. Up to 1983 we had used in our breeding, once or more, eight different Siberian males imported to Finland and Norway from USA. These males had kennel names as Anadyr, Arctic Trail, Calivali and Igloo Pak, all well-known American Siberian sleddog kennels. In addition we had bought both puppies and mature dogs.
Our team became, step by step, stronger and faster. Next phase in the progress came with the dogs that Ingvar de Forest imported to Sweden from USA around 1980. It was 15 Siberians and many of them were very good and they became very significant for the breed in Sweden. About ten years after the dogs were imported; the best siberian teams consisted to a great part of their offspring.
From Ingvar de Forests Snowtrail kennel we bought seven dogs and used his male dogs as studs seven times.
Very important for us was the import from USA of frozen semen from Igloo Pak´s Snow Bandit. The first litter was born 1989 and a second in 1991.
Today we have 30 Siberian Huskies. The ambition with our breeding of Siberian Husky is to maintain its capability as a competitive sled dog together with a typical look and a good temperament. In order to maintain its ability as a sled dog we consider that it is important with a continuing test of the dogs that should be used in the breeding.
