Kristdala Parish

Kristdala is a rather small parish with about 2000 members and one vicar, Håkan Helleberg. Our present church is from 1792. Before that there was another one, which was first mentioned during the fourteenth century. There are still some things from the old church in this one e.g. the ceiling in the sacristy with a painting of the risen Christ, some furniture as the vicar's chair and of course some beautiful pastor's clothes.
The new church is also called Tegner-barn, which was older people's way of expressing dislike for the modern architecture encouraged by bishop Tegner. It is white washed and with very few adornments. The baptismal font of stone is from the old church as are some paintings. In 1991-1992 the church was fully renovated and is now a little more colorful. It was rather bleak earlier. At that time the church also got a new alter and an organ in the front of the church. The big organ on the balcony is from the beginning of the nineteenth century. In the front of the church there are also two beautiful, painted glass windows, made by Bo Beskow with Christmas and Easter as subject.
Kristdala parish is best known for its long succession of pastors from the same family. Eight pastors from the Duraeus-Meurling family served in Kristdala for more than 400 years. The name Meurling will always be tied to the parish.
In the parish we also have a parish home which is frequently used not only by the different groups in the church work but also by people in the region for birthday parties, meetings etc.
Soli Dei Gloria is written on Per Meurling the elder's tomb stone just outside the side door of the church. These words are still very much alive in all the church work in our parish of Kristdala.
