Who is Thor?
![]() |
This is my description of Thor. I have also listed a few other Gods under the title Friends of Thor´s.
Thor is the preserver and maintainer of creation. He is like the string that runs through each pearl of a necklace, thus holding them together. He is the main warrant for the persistence of universal and social order.
Thor is a force, a will, an intelligence and a personality, whose being is manifested in such things as our instinct of self-preservation, our love of freedom and pursuit for happiness. He is the personification of steadiness, strength and strong fundaments, of honor, justice and righteousness.
Like other Deities, Thor has more than one role to play in the universal drama. One is that of protector of human society, preserver of the world as described above, divine witness and hallower of oaths and rituals. And last, but not least, he is a God of farming and agriculture. It is as such he was worshipped by the majority of the common people. In relation to the members of his house, he is the husband of Síf, the father of Móði and Magni and master of servants Thialfi and Roskva.
This, my friend, is Thor! Hail Thor! Hail the almighty Os*!
(* The anglo-saxon form of the word Ás - God(s).)
