Basics
of the
worship of Thor

Naturally, what characterizes the worship of Thor also goes for the norse tradition - Forn Síðr - as a whole, and in the extent, for all original indo-european cults and traditions. Our native religion was a nature religion adapted to an agricultural society. Closeliness to Earth, nature and all physical and spiritual beings that live therein is fundamental, also is having one´s own place in a line of heritage and in society, there fulfilling one´s duty and calling. I formulate the essence of my worship in these four principles:
- Wholeness; holiness is to be whole, harmonious and unharmed.
- Freedom; each votary of the Forn Síðr is free to find his own way within the guide-lines given by the tradition as a whole.
- Spontaniety; being spontaneous and free of artificial inhibitations one can begin to explore one´s inside. True religion must have it´s origin from within ourselves. Only then can we begin to fathom the Divine.
- Female divinity; femininity gives qualities to our culture that are invaluable - motherhood, tenderness, intuition etc. Therefore, femininity in itself a subject for worship. We recognize the Earth as our Mother, a female Deity of unmeasurable importance. Woman must therefore always and in all situations be respected as equal to man.
Remember, that our native religion never was one cult. There existed no religious organisations like the national and international churches. The individual was free. The cult was practiced in various forms at local temples that were maintained by families of priests. Thus, some temples served a region or a village, while others could have its votaries spread over a larger area. The tradition now called Asatru flourished in infinite variations, and in my opinion, this is how it should work today.
