Good Books for inspiration when you're game is in a rut
The Road to Chess Improvement by Alex Yermolinsky. This is one of my big favourites in the 'inspirational' genre! Available in three languages. At the moment I can't remember my other older favourites, but a game collection / biography of a favourite player can often fill the spot just as well and then I'd recommend the following book:
Life & Games of Mikhail Tal by Mikhail Tal. It's not often that a top player and world champion is also an excellent and entertaining writer, in fact Tal is probably the exception that proves that not all world champions are full of themselves!
The Magic of Mikhail Tal by Joe Gallagher. Is a kind of sequel to Tal's own book above, starting where he leaves us in that book. So, it covers the final years 1975-1992 - no more Caissa's darling, but still producing games and stories worth watching!
Learn from the Legends: Chess Champions at Their Best by Mihail Marin. Is in fact on my 'to get list' since long, but somehow I haven't gotten around to it yet. Judging by his style of writing from 'Beating the Open Games' I'll probably like it - actually, so I haven't heard anything negative about 'Legends' from anyone. So hey, don't wait for me! :)
