CROW
In the beginning the people of the Crow tribe lived on the banks of the Missouri river. They called themselves Absaroke or Apsalooke (birdpeople). In the 18:th century they moved to the areas around the Rocky Mountains. The Crow people became buffalohunters on the plains, which got them into conflict with several other tribes on the plains such as: Arapaho, Comanche, Kiowa, Pawnee, Sioux, Shoshoni and Ute. They founded an alliance with the US Army against their traditional enemies. Today most of the Crow people live in the Crow reservation in Montana near Little Big Horn. There they arrange every year in august, since the end of the 19:th century, the world´s largest Pow-wow called "Crow-fair". In 1990 there were appr. 9,000 Crow-indians in the United States.

Plenty Coups
He was born near Billings, Montana in 1848. In 1873 Plenty Coups became chief for the Crow indians who lived in the mountains near the plains, the so called Mountain Crows. He had a peaceful relation with the americans and provided the army with scouts from his tribe in the campaigns against the Sioux people, led by General George A. Custer in 1876. Hes men participated even in 1877 against the Nez Perce people. In 1883 Plenty Coups travelled to Washington to discuss the possibilities to recieve some compensation from the governement for the land that earlier belonged to the Crow people. Plenty Coups became chief on highest level for the Crow people in 1904. During world war one he encouraged young Crow men to join the army. He died on the 3rd of May in 1932 and he had then had 11 wifes, but never got any children. His home is today a museum and he is also buried there.
