Jan's Home Page

Latest update: February, 2005

Hi there! What I want to do here is to share with you one of my interests, and provide a couple of Web links so that you can use the Net to find out more about those topics.

The United Nations and World Federalism

To a growing extent all countries on this planet are dependent upon each other. Many problems can - and should! - be solved within the national state, but some problems are global and can only be solved by joint effort. Such problems are for example pollution, peace, resource distribution, human rights.

The United Nations (UN) is an important but insufficient attempt to provide the framework for such joint efforts among the national states of the globe. Find out more about it by clicking the highlighted items below!

  • United Nations has of course a home page. This is a good starting point to learn more about the UN.

  • The Commission on Global Governance is also known as the Carlsson-Ramphal Commission. It is one of the many commissions that UN has initiated. Here you find various reports produced in the course of that work.

The World Federalist Movement (WFM) suggests a step beyond UN, namely to have the relation between nations based on enforceable World Law rather than on non-binding discussions and agreements. WFM has branches in about 30 countries. Find out more about it by clicking the highlighted items below!

If you happen to know Swedish then I recommend a visit to the home page of the Swedish branch of WFM, SVF (Sveriges Världsfederalister)

However, if English is your language ...

  • WFM:s home page is a good starter!

  • Global Policy Forum is one of the best sites and contains references to various ideas on world government, and for improving the United Nations, including - of course! - World Federalist schemes.

  • "Global Solutions" Home Page is maintained by the USA branch of the World Federalist Movement

  • Young European Federalists is another web page that is very well worth visiting.
