I´m a lucky guy!
November 2001 I had the great oppurtunity to interview Snuffy Walden via e-mail.
It was something I`ve wanted to do for so long.
OK, Here`s the questions and the answers...

1. What where your musical influences back in the 70`s?
-Hendrix, Clapton, and all the blues guys....There were a lot of great blues players in Texas at that time.

2. Which guitarist/guitarists has inspired you most during your career?
-Probably Hendrix and Clapton, although when I discovered Ry Cooder I got pretty excited. His Paris Texas score was and is one of my favorites.

3. For how long did "Aphrodite" play with Randy Reeder?
-Randy was the original drummer for the band, even before I joined as a rythm guitarist. I believe he was in the band till we formed Stray Dog.
Probably 3 years..from 1970-1973.

4. Where most of the songs on Stray dogs first album written during the "Aphrodite" time?
Some were, and some wern’t. Tramp, How it is, Speak of the Devil and Slave were written after Stray Dog was formed. We were playing with the others in some form or another with Aphrodite before then.

5. How did the european audience recieve you during the tour
w. ELP?
Kind of mixed. In some places people seemed to really like us. But in some it was a nightmare. For example, at a concert in Paris, on LIVE radio, the announcer came out and said (to paraphrase) “We didn’t tell you there was an opening act. Try not to be too hard on them”...and when the curtains opened, people started throwing fruit.
We dodged rotten fruit for the next 25 minutes. Even found an orange in one
of Al’s bass cabinets a week later...

6. Did you know Timmy Dulaine before the recording of
"While you`re ..."?
Yes. Timmy and I played together in Texas in the late 1960’s.

7. What do you remember most from the Stray dog days?
Mostly the music. It was the one band I put everything in musically, and I
still think it was really special

8. Why did Stray dog quit?
The band broke up when we were out on tour supporting the second LP. I think it was a combination of drugs, alcohol, and immaturity. I know at least on my part
that was the case. I truly believe if the band had been very successfull I would be dead now. So in that way it was a blessing we didn’t succeed.

9. What are your musical influences today?
Depends on what I’m working on....record or score. I suppose its mixed. Anything that moves me, I guess. With what I have been doing for the last 15 years I am exposed to a lot of different kinds of music. As long as it touches my heart, I can get into it.

10. If you had the opportunity to join or start any new musical
project today, what would it be?
I suppose I would love to do one more shot at a band, but it would have to be with guys I love and doing music that really inspires me.....good luck on getting all those things aligned!

Thanks Snuffy!!!
