In the History of Sweden, Lasse-Maja became famous as our first transvestite.

Lasse-Maja was born in the middle of Sweden in the end of the 18th century.

Lasse Maja became a criminal when he was very young and to escape from justice he started to wear women's cloths.

That is what the most Swedish people think, but the troth is a little bit more complicated. Lasse-Maja said " I was never found of working" but he did a hell of a job. When he acted as a women he did what he was found of and he did it very well. For example he was employed in the royal kitchen for a while and he was a very good chef. When Lasse-Maja at the end get caught they used him in the kitchen and let him work as a headwaiter. Because of that Lasse-Maja get out of prison alive. The most people during this time did not.

Lasse Maja is still alive in peoples mind. Still, you can see many companies in Sweden with the name Lasse-Maja in the title. Of course there are more than one restaurants but you even find other companies where there are a little bit harder to find the connection. Maybe they just think it is enough that the name is firmly rooted in peoples mind.

In Sweden there is hard to find books from this time, especially when it comes to imaginative literature.

We know there where more criminals who dressed in clothes of the opposite sex purpose to hide from law. What makes Lasse-Maja so special? Actually he was an transvestite before anyone know the word. He was also an gentleman and a very charming person. When it comes to his behavior you may suspect that he was gay, but there is not one word written in that direction. Maybe he was bisexual but we will never find out. His first girlfriend was named Maja and she was much older than Lasse. She lived with her parents in a small house not far from Lasse.

His real name was Lars Larsson but he later changed that in to Lars Molin, probably to make it harder for the law to find him. When the people in Sweden starts to talk about him they called him Lasse-Maja because of his habit to dress in women's clothes.

Lasse-Maja just loved the capitol city of Sweden. That was the place where he could go to the theaters and fancy restaurants. He did come back over and over again. LasseMaja just loved the exclusive life but of course it cost him a lot. He had to steal to afford it and he was wanted for about ten years.

Lasse-Maja only knew one way. He burned the candle at both ends and he was proud of it.
