My younger brother Simon and I, on my first trip to Thailand. We bought a cheap ticket to Bangkok and we spent the night at a very sleazy hotel on Khosan road. Unless you really want to save money and don´t plan to stay to long in Bangkok. Spend some extra on the hotel. You can eat for as little as 30 US cents/10 bath. We took the train and boat down to Kho Samui. On the way we stayed at Hua Hin, It was nice but small. We stayed at a hotel with air-condition and pool for 600 bath/night. But every day we as white could go to the back of the nicest hotel and use there gigantic pool. In Kho Samui we stayed at chaweng beach. We got a beach bungalow with fan for 300 bath/night. This is really the only beach were you can swim during day hours, because of the tides.We bought a trip with one of the numerous dive arrangers on Chaweng beach.this was going to be my brother Simons first dive ever. The place was Sailrock Kho Tao. Two hours boat trip from Kho Samui. The diving here was nice  a bit drifty but a lot to look at. The nicest thing about the first dive was at the end when we swam inside the rock, it had this chimney kind of cave that started at about 18 meters and had two exits one at 12 and the other at 6 meters. This was the only time I have ever seen a one legged man dive. It was one of the Dive masters. He had an accident while diving on a wreck ones, a door slam-shut and crushed his leg. On the surface he was handicapped but you should have seen him swim. Made me feel a bit handicapped really.
