ÖSTERSUNDS SPELMANSLAG




 
 

Peter Roos from Hackås has played music since he was a child and is one of the regions most promising young spelmen. He was awarded the title of Riksspelman in Delsbo in 1991. During his teens he concentrated on an education in classical music but later devoted more time to folk music and teaching. Between the years of 96-98 he became, in Stockholm, under the leadership of Ole Hjort, as a qualified teacher of violin, specialising in folk music. He is also a well-known winner of the Näcken competition 97-98. Since the autumn of 98 he has worked as violin teacher in Östersund and has also taken over the leadership of Östersunds spelmanslag. On top of this he freelances in the Irish group Tajt where he plays together with Nils Ohlsson.
 

Rickard Näslin born and bred in Östersund was one of the founders of the Jämtlandic folk music group Leikstulaget in 1974. Riksspelman 1978. Has over the years participated in the recording of a dozen or so gramophone records and has published three books of sheet music with fiddle-tunes from Jämtland. Member of the board for Heimbygdas association 1979-1994. Part-time musician who has been a teacher at Birka Folk High School since 1992. In 1993 started the Östersunds Spelmanslag and since then has been their leader. During the years he has received many prizes and honours for his contributions to Jämtlandic folk music and in 1998 he was awarded the Lapp-Nils medal which is the Heimbydas Spelmans associations highest honour.
