They played Thursday nights at Phantom's Cat Club in Hollywood, CA. Just like the Neurotic Outsiders a few years earlier at the Viper Room, their reputation quickly grew more and more. People like Jimmy Page, Brian May, Axl Rose and Jeff Beck turned up to watch them (and sometimes jam with them). All this led to Icon Records signing The Starfuckers in 2001. During this year the band changed their name to Col. Parker (not surprisingly Icon didn't want to release an album by "Starfuckers"). Their debut album "Rock 'N' Roll Music" was released on October 23, 2001. Around this time they went out on their first tour. In the end Col. Parker turned out not to be very long-lived, and they disintegrated after the tour. Gilby: "I realized that I like doing my own stuff better. If I'm going to work this hard, I might as well work on my records."1 1 Smalls, A (2003) Playing Live Is Like A Vacation, www.bravewords.com - January, 2003 SOURCES
