Gilby Clarke Toronto, ON, Healey's January 9, 2003 by Angel
The show rocked! It was a full house. Gilby was actually the special guest. Jeff Healey plays his club on Thursdays with specials guests. So Jeff went on at about 11:30 pm. He played two songs and then Gilby joined them onstage. Too bad Gilby didn't play any of his originals with them. They mainly played calssics by the Stones, Beatles, Dylan and blues songs. They played until 12:45 am. Then there was an intermission and Jeff was supposed to go back onstage with Gilby and other guests. I left - had to get to work the next morning. The set list was:
1. Brown Sugar (Stones) Gilby sang every song, played rythm guitar and did lead guitar/solos on practically every song - then Jeff would do his lead guitar/solo and it was simply amazing. Jeff is a great guitarist - if you ever get the chance to hear him live go for it! I went to the show with BFD who's on this list. We got the chance to speak to Gilby before he went onstage. There was one guy who asked Gilby to sign something but I'm not sure that people knew who he was cause hardly anyone came to speak to him. But then again, Canadians are very laid back when it comes to celebrities. He signed my Pawn Shop Guitars album and we took a picture together. He
is very cool and seems like a very happy guy; he always has a big smile
on his face! I asked him if he would be performing any of his originals
but he said no - the band doesn't know them, so they'd do some Stones
songs. On a new album, Gilby said that he isn't working on anything
right now but he should be! The show wasn't part of a tour or anything,
he was just hanging out in Toronto and thought it would be cool to jam
with Jeff. I don't know how the whole thing came together.
