N.I.R. Newsletter #3 - 1999 Welcome to the third issue of the N.I.R. Newsletter. 18 people have subscribed to this newsletter now. Plus everyone that is on Dust N' Bones. Content 1. News Summary 2. Site Updates 3. This Month In GN'R History 4. Featured Section Of The Month 5. Site Recommendations 6. The Poll So Far 7. The Future Of The Site 8. After ------------ 1. News Summary The biggest thing this month was that Sean Beavan was confirmed being the new producer by the GN'R camp. Steven Adler was the only one from GN'R who showed up to accept the diamond award (for selling more then 10 million copies of "Appetite"). Duff McKagan did an online chat on the 16th. It was a really caotic chat that lasted for two hours. It was nice of Duff to take his time to do the chat. Unfortunately some people did their best to ruin the whole thing. If you want to know what was said, look in section 2. The Neurotic Outsiders will do comeback in April. They will play four gigs at the Viper Room in Los Angeles [Apr 5, 12, 19, 26]. Duff told this in his chat. Appearantly both Luna and Sheryl Crow will cover "Sweet Child O' Mine." Other then that it was mostly news about new gigs by Duff and by Snakepit. ------------ 2. Site Updates I haven't done a lot of changes to my pages this month. One of the reasons for that you can read about in section 7 of this newsletter. The 1998 updates list have been moved to a separate text file. This was due to the long loading time of the updates page. I did a transcript of the chat Duff did. It took me two hours to compile it. It only includes everything that Duff said (and the question of course). I've added a GN'R concert review from April 1993. It was sent in by Dori. Thanks to that two days have been added to the tour diary. The layout on the tourlists page have been changed. Now you can see the coming dates (no matter who it is that's playing) at the top. I've also changed the layout on the (for most people) unknown N.I.R. mainpage. I'm not talking about the GN'R main page, but the page where you can choose to go all my sites. I've done a list of all my bootlegs (non-GN'R). You can view it from the N.I.R. mainpage. A photo section have been added. If you have any GN'R photos that you would like to see there, just email me. The biggest change this month was that I changed the layout on the GN'R index page quite much. There was some problems with that, so the site was down for a day or so. This Month In GN'R History - April April 7, 1990 - Guns perform at Farm Aid IV in Indianapolis. Steven is in a so bad condition that they only could do two songs, "Civil War" (first time performed) and a cover of the UK Subs' "Down On The Farm". April 8, 1962 - Jeff Isbelle is born in Lafayette, IN. He later takes the name Izzy Stradlin. April 15, 1993 - GN'R are forced to cancel the show at the Omni in Atlanta, Georgia. During the band's performance here in 1987 Axl had been arrested for a scuffle with a security guy. The security guy had been beating up the band's friends in the audience. With Axl on parole for previous offenses manager Doug Goldstein pulls the show. April 20, 1992 - Guns N' Roses performs at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert on Wembley Stadium in London, England. They played Paradise City and Knockin' On Heaven's Door. They were originally going to perform three songs but there had been some technical problems earlier. Later that night Axl joined his heroes, Elton John and the remains of Queen, for an amazing duet version of "Bohemian Rhapsody". He also performed "We Will Rock You" with Queen. Slash played "Tie Your Mother Down" together with Queen and Joe Elliot. The show was shown live around the world via satellite, gathering the largest audience for a music concert in history. April 28, 1990 - Axl marries Erin Everly in Las Vegas. April 29, 1993 - Gilby breaks his left wrist in a motorcycling accident. He was practicing for a celebrity race in honor of the TJ Martell Foundation for leukemia, cancer and AIDS research. Four shows had to be canceled. The forthcoming European shows were in jeopardy, but they called Izzy who stepped in for the first five shows. April, 1990 - Duff and Slash records with Iggy Pop. The album is called "Brick By Brick." April, 1994 - "The Making Of Estranged: Part IV Of The Trilogy" was released. ------------ 4. Featured Section Of The Month This month's section is the "tour facts" section. It is all about the Use Your Illusion World Tour. There is facts about each leg (with links to the tour diary). There is also a big facts section about the 1993 european leg. Guns N' Roses Tour Facts - N.I.R. http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Arena/3342/ontour.html ------------ 5. The Poll So Far Less and less people vote now, but I'm satisfied with the response. Due to this, the poll will be removed from the newsletter next month, so you have to go my page to see if anything's changed. Since November 15, 1998, 102 people have voted. 1.[40 votes] - Estranged 2.[32 votes] - November Rain 3.[23 votes] - Sweet Child O' Mine 4.[19 votes] - Coma 5.[19 votes] - Paradise City 6.[16 votes] - Patience 7.[16 votes] - Rocket Queen 8.[13 votes] - Dead Horse 9.[13 votes] - Don't Cry (Original) 10.[10 votes] - Welcome To The Jungle 11.[9 votes] - Breakdown 12.[9 votes] - Locomotive 13.[8 votes] - You Could Be Mine 14.[7 votes] - Nightrain 15.[6 votes] - One In A Million Guns N' Roses Song Poll http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Arena/3342/poll.html ------------ 7. The Future Of The Site When I started working on my site there was one section I was going to include, but I didn't and now I've forgotten why. Anyway, some weeks ago I started working on the section and it turned out to be too big to fit in my site in a good way. So when it's ready it will be on a completely new URL. I'll come back with more info later. ------------ 8. After Don't forget that if you would like to promote your page in the newsletter, you only have to send me an email with what you want the ad to say. It's very free ;-) If you would like to read old newsletters there's a page for this newsletter located here: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Arena/3342/nletter.html Andreas lap@swipnet.se N.I.R. http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Arena/3342/nir.html
