At the end of 2001, Stefan and Jocke met at a Fireside concert in Umeå, which is a bit strange, since neither of them likes Fireside very much. Bored with the music, they began discussing the prospect of forming a punk band together. Since it's no good forming a band with only two guitarists, they looked around for a drummer, and found one at the very next table. Henrik was a remote friend of Stefan's, and in his drunken state he immediately agreed to take care of the drumming, even though everybody knows he is also a very capable vocalist (his Elvis imitations are really worth hearing!). As is usually the case, the plans weren't realised, since Jocke lost Stefans phone number, and none of them really knew how serious the others were about the whole thing. Every now and then they would bump into each other at pubs and gigs, promising each other that they would get started any day soon…
During that very same autumn, Jocke and Melker had gotten to know each other because their wives were so alike that it was spooky (still is). They found that they shared a keen interest in alternative music, but it was only about six months later that Jocke realised that Melker and Stefan knew each other, and actually had played in the same band a few years ago ( Det var inte vi ). Also realising that Melker owned a bass and wanted to play it, all the pieces fell in place and Jocke, Stefan and Melker met up in a local pub to try and line out what to do next. What was meant to be a quick meeting turned into a long night of drinking and growing expectations about our future greatness
There was a delicate discussion about what to do with Henrik, since he actually was more interested in singing than drumming. The conclusion was that any idiot can sing in a punk rock band, while a proficient drummer is really hard to find, so Henrik simply had to accept to let the idiots do the singing (that's all the rest of us). Since we're all fans of big hockey choirs, and we all can keep our voices in tune we have all taken our shares of singing (Yes, eventually Henrik was allowed to sing a bit too).
We started to play originals from day one when Stefan brought one of his Swedish folk-punk anthems, “Taggtråd” (translates to “Barbed Wire”, if you're interested you can download it from the music page), and Jocke brought the hardcore style “Shit and Corruption” (which eventually happened to give name to the band itself). Presently, when Melker introduced his reggae scented “Piller” (Pills), it dawned upon us that we had no consistent style at all. We thought about that for a while, but came to the conclusion that we couldn't be bothered about styles. We continued to play whatever we felt like. Two years down the track, the song writing has become more of a team work and more homogenous.
The first gig took place at the Raj-raj festival in the woods just outside Umeå. There was no time for sound check, and the sound was catastrophic through the first few songs. After that it became slightly better, and we were actually able to hear what we were playing by the end of the concert. Some people applauded politely, and we were happy to get it over with…
Through the years, we have gathered a rather impressing heap of punk rock songs of varying quality, and we are always looking for gigs. If you know of any, let us know!
