Exact, spherically-symmetric,
space-time separable solutions are found to the classical electrodynamic
equations (Maxwell's equations and conservation of charge, mass and momentum).
The algebra involved in the solution of this nonlinear system of partial
differential equations is formidable but, surprisingly enough, the final
solution turns out to be simple expressions in elementary analytical functions,
which in the paper are further verified by back substitution into the original
equations. The stationary solutions obtained as a special case are also
shown to be consistent with the virial theorem.
The algebraic derivation
of the solutions is presented in detail as commented computer print-outs
from the symbolic mathematics platform MapleV
release 2 (except for the discussion in Sect A2). The original Maple output
was filed as Appendix A in British Patent Application GB 9515039.7 (21
July, 1995). Using a method described elsewhere
on this web site, the Maple output Appendix A is reprinted (170 kB) in
where it can be read by an Abobe Acrobat Reader 3.0. NB If you have a version 2.1 Acrobat Reader (or if you are uncertain which version you have), please instead read http://hem.passagen.se/scientor/AppndixA.pdf (295 kB).
