The fun of Satie is well represented in Angela Brownridge's colleciton. It is sensitively arranged as a programme to have Gymnopédies and Gnossiennes alternating with the lighter pieces echoing popular music. The playing is bright and stylish, sensitively reflecting the sharply changing moods and lacking only the last touches of poetry.

This gifted player has other records to her credit, and there is much to admire here. It replaces a similar and sensitive compilation from Peter Lawson and is intelligently planned and excellently recorded; all the same, something of the essential melancholy and poetry of this music eludes her. There is some fluent playing, but one is rarely touched in the Gnossiennes and Gymnopédies.
