 Introduction
A lot of this website is about language and words - not this page.

Photography is a hobby of mine and these are a few of my recent photos and snapshots. Most have been tweaked a bit in either Photoshop or with The Gimp - a free, open source code alternative to Photoshop (did I mention that it is free?) Find it here ->

 China Photos
Unnamed Beijing Statue
China, especially Beijing, has some great statues -- this is a detail for a truly impressive monument at the end of embassy row. I have no idea who created it, what it is called, or what it is meant to say, but I do know that it was, well, monumental.
Unexplained Beijing Airplane
One afternoon we just needed a break from the noise and heat of the city. As luck would have it, there was a tiny park close at hand and it had an airplane too! Why? We have no idea. It made a nice picture though.

Revolutionary Art Showing a Happy Family
This is obviously a left-over bit of state propaganda that I found on an alley wall in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, South China. Just a few meters away a woman was begging with her daughter on the street - outside of a McDonald's Restaurant. Economic and social change in China are coming at a price.
3 Happy Schoolgirls in Guangzhou
These three ran to the school fence to yell 'Hello!' in English. They were thrilled to be able to use their English.

One of the things to love about China
To quote thousands of tourist brochures, China is a land of surprise and mystery. One of the things I loved the best in China was the English used on its signs. While the translations might be a bit 'fuzzy' sometimes, the meanings are usually clear and reflective of the surrounding culture - in this case, a concern with being neat and clean.

Summer Palace Lion
The Summer Palace in Beijing was one of the highlights of our trip. It was touristy, but big enough to retain the feeling of divine isolation the Emperors must have enjoyed when they were there. This particular lion has been manipulated in Photoshop - he is not gold in real life.

My youngest son
Shown here just before surgery in November 2004 - he's not often this quiet!

A favourite place in Canada
The Crowsnest Pass area of Alberta was originally a coal mining area. Today, the coal is too expensive to mine and all of the old mines are rotting away. There is a kind of breathless beauty to be found at these abandoned places that is hard to describe.

One winter  morning in Sweden
Winter is such a beautiful time.

Summer...
This boat was just sitting at the harbour in Örebro one rainy summer day. It's beautiful don't you think?

Moose!
So ugly they are cute. They are much bigger than they look in these little photos too.

Siggebohyttans bergsmansgård
A detail of a 1700s wall painting...

Another winter picture
Boats are so much a part of the Swedish summer; there is something sad about them in the winter...

 Tip of the day...
