My arcade cabinet once had an Hantarex 20" monitor but it was gone since long. A friend of mine offered me an old Hitachi 20"
multisync monitor for free! Many other builders have stated that a computer monitor in a cabinet looks like a computer monitor in a shelf. I agree that that is often the case but my project will prove that it is
possible to get it to look right. I would recommend a really old monitor like mine because the picture tube is shaped like a real arcade monitor. New flat panel monitors will never look the same. Also try to get a
monitor about the same size as the original. It is obvious that a 17" monitor in a full size upright cabinet will look awkward. This picture is from the back of the cabinet. It shows how the
monitor is mounted in the original brackets and resting on a pedestal. I didn't want to drill any holes in the cabinet!
This picture is from the front. Note that I have spray painted the monitor bezel flat black. Also note the original control panel still in
place and the lack of a marquee. This picture shows the monitor overlay made of black cardboard paper and fastened with adhesive backed VELCRO. Note the newly
made control panel folded open and black marquee mounted. |
