Utopia manifest.
Utopia is the future society.
Material equality, democracy
and individual freedom.
Abolish work. Abolish money.
(Can you imagine a world without money?)
The utopia movement is working for:
1 Open democratic parlamentarism.
2 Upholding and furthering of civil rights.
3 Material equality and equal rights to private property for
everybody.
4 Abolishment of the monetary system and the power of money.
5 All work shall be voluntary. Give the individual real freedom.
Points 1 and 2 are already accepted principles in most advanced
democracies (but seldom fully implemented).
Points 3,4 and 5 are unique for the utopia program, and they replace
raw capitalism with a human society and individual freedom. Instead of stepping on human
values for the sake of money, as the monetary system forces us to do, we can help each
other and live in freedom and happiness. Utopia will let us individually take
responsibility of our own life's. We do not need the whips and carrots of the monetary
system anymore.
Actually, we cannot afford to keep the monetary system. It is
destroying people and human values and it is the single most destructive factor on the
planet today.
We do not need money anymore, and it is really easy to abolish it.
Today, in the capitalist-democratic world, money is seen as the
primary driving force for all development. We do not accept this myth. For example, most
doctors study very hard for more than 20 years before they can start to work, and keep on
studying for the rest of their life's, and work 50-70 hours per week, under enormous
pressure and responsibility, for about the same salary as the average restaurant owner.
Money is NOT the driving force for most people who study and do very valuable work for the
society. Instead it is the personal interest which drives most people to study and work in
intellectually demanding professions.
1. This movement is totally peaceful and legal. As long as we have
freedom to work for our ideas, as we have in most countries in the world today, there is
no need for underground or illegal actions. Furthermore, utopia can never be achieved with
violent means, or against the will of the majority, so the only way forward is through
information, discussion and letting everybody think and decide for themselves.
Violence and aggression have no place in the utopian movement.
2. We work for the abolition of the monetary system, the old system,
which today coexists with the new system, individual freedom and democratic
parlamentarism, and they do not work very well together. Money talks, and stops all good
initiatives.
3. Democratic parlamentarism and voluntarism, civil rights, freedom of
speech, the right to know what the government is planning and doing, the right to form
opinion, should be the basis of the society. ("the government" is shortly
written for all institutions where decisions are made at all levels in the society, from
the one man company to the united nations) Discussions and decisions should be made by the
people who are affected by the decisions, local decisions should be made locally, and
decision which are affecting all of the world should be made at world level.
But most of all we should ask ourselves if we really need to make a
decision, in most cases it it possible to leave the final decision to each individual.
Most people are responsible and intelligent, and most people will make sensible choices,
and that is all we need as a society. Some people will do stupid things, but the majority
will make choices which will be good for all of us.
4. By the way, who is to say what is right and what is wrong? Maybe
the individual who persists in a strange behavior is on to something valuable. We can
never be sure, so let people have a free choice, and let them do what they want to as long
as they do not harm others. We could also formulate this scientifically and say: Variation
is the prime source of evolution, so let people be different.
The monetary system is the modern and formal version of the first and
very primitive control system on earth, ruling by power. It is really time now to leave it
behind us, because it is more destructive than beneficial in a modern world.
5. In Utopia everybody has the same right to material standard and
living conditions and equal rights to private property.
6. All work is voluntary, everybody decides for herself what she wants
to do, and when and how, or if she does not want to do anything at all.
7. We believe that people in general will by themselves find a balance
between their own interests and the interests of the society, and enough people will help
keep the society running, even if others do materially improductive things, like paint,
compose music, or just being lazy.
8. Everybody can decide for himself what he wants to own as private
property, up to the limit, which is the average of all capital wares in the country. That
is, the value of all houses apartments cars boats and other expensive products, divided by
the number of people in the country.
When utopia starts everybody can stop paying mortgages or rent for
their home, it is now their own property. The same goes for their cars and boats. People
who have too much property are asked to choose what they want to keep and return the rest
to the car/house/apartment registry, and people who have less than the limit, which is
most of us, can now choose and get more, for free, until they reach the limit, the
average.
(actually, the limit should be set half a percent lower than the
average, so there is always a number of free homes and cars to choose from for those who
want to change their property holding, or want to move to a new place) (and there must be
different limits for children, youngsters, grown-ups)
In most countries these register boards already exist, like the car
registry and land and house registry. We do not have to change much in those countries,
just abolish the money and give equal material rights and individual freedom to all people
and everything will be fine.
As you can see we do not have to create a totally new society. Most of
the utopia system is already in place, and our basic principles are easy to understand and
accept for most people. Just remove the disturbing influence of money and we will have a
new and happy world where freedom and equality for every individual is the basis of the
society.
We should debate and vote, to find the best solutions for a problem,
but leave the final decision to every individual.
9. Consumer products, like food and toilet paper, can be free to fetch
in the stores, no need for cash registers or personnel to count money anymore.
10. Luxury consumer wares, like rare champagne and russian caviar can
be rationed with a consumer card system for example.
11. Most of the criminality in the society of today will be impossible
or unnecessary in the utopian society. For example bank robbery is impossible, because
there is no money, and no banks, and even if you could get hold of money there is nothing
you can buy for them. Prostitution will be totally unnecessary, because every woman and
every man already have everything they need materially, and nobody is allowed to own more
than the average, no matter how they got it. Women can choose for themselves who they want
to sleep with, and live with, so this will also be the end of male domination in the
world.
12. Most of the problems in the world today will disappear
automatically, like inflation, wages, rates, mortgages, debts, taxes and so on.
The economic pressure on the integrity of scientists, artists and
journalists will be gone.
The huge, and very irritating, advertisement business can be replaced
by serious and fun consumer information.
This is a totally new system, because all other systems have been
based on people living at different material levels, in Soviet they were called
party/non-party people, in USA rich/poor people. Material inequality in the society
creates most of the problems we know from all these old systems. Inequality needs to be
enforced and controlled which always creates a repressive society, a very wasteful type of
society.
In Utopia the driving force is the interest, curiosity and creativity
of the individual, not money.
Let everyone choose for herself what she/he wants to study and work
with.
For example if there are too few doctors in a country there will be a
need for more doctors. People and media will talk about the need and more youngsters will
find it interesting and rewarding to become a doctor, because they know doctors are needed
and wanted. These are natural control processes which will regulate the development of the
society without forcing the individual in any way. More youngsters will be drawn to
popular (needed) occupations but every individual will still have free choice of interests
and occupations.
Why Utopia?
It is time for Material Equality for all people on earth. We can now
abolish the money system.
Material equality is the only fair solution.
For too long the rich have been using the monetary system as a weapon
against the poor people.
Money is hampering our basic principles. Equality between all people,
regardless of their race, religion, gender.. Freedom of speech. Open democracy. Civil
rights.
Let us take a look at the present historical situation,
We have a heritage of material inequality, throughout the human
history, which now has been conserved in the monetary system, There are rich people, and
poor people.
Those families which profited from imperialism are still the rich
families. The poor indian is still a poor indian in most countries..
Men are still paid more than women in our workplaces.
Are we going to accept these historic, and very unfair, differences?
The answer is simple. No.
Why abolish money? How? What positive effects would it have on our
life's?
1: Because the money system has served it's purpose, being to guide
the flow of resources in the absence of any other control system. But the money has always
been a big trouble, we will all be happier not having to think about money any more.
2: How? Well, just like we make other changes to our society, we
create opinion, ..if necessary we can start new parties, and when the majority of the
people want to abolish money we just do it, in the normal democratic parliamentary way.
Can we abolish money in just one country? Yes, No problem. (The
relation to the monetary world outside will be a trade balance, just like we have always
had at our borders).
3 What is so good with abolishing the money?
We get rid of a lot of problems. We do not have to care about money
anymore, no bills, no mortgages to worry about, no wages, no taxes.. We can forget that
whole piece of life, nice huh?
Money cause a lot of troubles, and we will get rid of them all by
simply abolishing the monetary system, we do not need it anymore.
We already have other means of steering the society, every individual
can steer himself, and for formal use we have political and other institutions,
universities, science and medicine boards.. The big problem these institutions have today
is obviously money, so in a moneyless society they can have the influence they should
have, without the very disturbing effects of the monetary system.
We do not use money inside our families, so why do we need money in
the world at all? We are actually a big family, so let's organize whatever needs to be
organized, without money.
When we abolish money we will at the same time give every individual
the freedom to realize himself, to choose independently of money, what he wants to do and
where to live etc.. Finally we will be treating others humans as grown-ups, they can
decide for themselves, we can no longer force people around with money as a whip, it is
not worthy a civilized society.
Fortunately it is fairly simple to abolish the money system.
The most usual objection to these ideas are: "but if we could
choose ourselves then nobody would work.."
My answer is: People basically want to help, many research projects
have shown this, if we didn't guess it ourselves, that most people are very prepared to
help others, and most of them want the society to work, they want schools to work, and
health care, food transport.. So a lot of people will try their best to make their society
a functioning society.
We live in a modern world with very good communications, don't you
think we can discuss problems and come to solutions, even without money.. It would be less
complicated than today, when everything demands a lot of economic calculations on top of
the real problems.
How can I believe that people would work even if they do not have to?
Many people will work of boredom, or because they want to meet people,
or because they want to help, or because they like that work.. there are many reasons why
people will work, but I am sure most people will.
Actually, we do not need more than 10% of the people working to reach
an acceptable material standard, and even today only a small part of the workforce is
actually producing the things we need for our daily life, the rest are counting money and
performing other useless functions
In short, I am not a bit worried about people being too lazy, the real
danger lies in that too many people will try to do too much, they will be so ambitious and
maybe try to force other people to work too.. "the moral majority" will maybe
think that this is their big chance.
We no longer will be forced by the money to give better profits every
year, we can relax and take it easy, nobody is pushing us any more
There is no need to force everybody to participate, and, more
important, we should not force people at all.
People are different, they will choose different lifestyles
Difference is evolution, let people be different
When the reform is carried through most citizens just go on doing
their work as usual, but without money, of course.. and most of them will do so. Most
things in society will work as usual, the food can be fetched from the store, but now we
don't need any people counting money at the store anymore, and no cashing machines are
needed anymore
"Jobs", or something to do, will still exist, but everybody
can decide for himself how much, and with what he wants to work. If extraordinary needs
arises this will of course be an item in the news, in local television etc. There will be
people who want to do these things that are much needed. If a sudden need for teachers
arises, then media will just ask the people, if somebody would like to take care of the
task.
Of course we will take with us all individual freedom and our civil
rights into the moneyless society, the freedom to think freely, to speak, to know what our
politicians are doing, and the right to be different, the right to choose other lifestyles
The right to be treated decently by the authorities.
When we no longer have the economic system to worry about we might be
able to be a little more tolerant towards other people.
We, the people, are tired of waiting for the moment to come when
everybody have become rich in the capitalistic society. In fact, we doubt that that
situation could ever happen in that system.
We no longer believe in communism, and even if we did, we cannot wait
thousands of years for communism to reach the classless and happy society
We want the future, and we want it now !
If we stop using money all of these historic problems will go away
immediately, we will all be equal and free. The material and economic freedom will allow
spiritual freedom to grow.
Start spreading this message and other texts, write more texts about
it, spread it on the internet, print it out and paste it where people can read it. send
the texts to media, radio/tv.. and so on..
And remember: this is a completely peaceful and pacifist cause, this
can never become reality without the majority of the people, so the only thing that will
work is to inform people, give them a new way to see their world, let them see the
possibilities we could have.
Stop fighting and start explaining!
Not ALL problems will be solved immediately, for example that people
drink to much alcohol, that problem will not go away so fast,
The long term problems which often result in an abuse of drugs will go
away, but we will have problems with alcohol for many years in the future too. These
problems will be easier to solve in a moneyless society though, many negative factors in
the abuse are related to stress and vulnerability.
We must have a limit to every individuals ownership, because everybody
have the right to an equal material standard,
The government will compute the average level of capital goods, and
then everybody can himself see to that he does not go over the limit.
The police and the other authorities will warn people who seems to
have more than others to give away some of it, or face prison if they are really stupid
and egoistic and continue to own more than allowed or using extremely much of running
resources, like food, clothes..
Normally we can let people just take what they want in the shops, this
system can be used for normal everyday consumption wares. Because very few people would
use more than what is needed, you cannot eat more than a certain amount of food every day,
you cannot sleep in more than one bed, you cannot use more toilet paper than usual.. So
there is really no need to restrict the distribution of such everyday goods.
I am not talking about anarchy. We need police and order in the
society even without money. The need will be a lot smaller, but there will always be
people who cannot understand the basic rules in a society
Well, what do you, personally, think about this? Could you accept that
you will have no more than anybody else, and no less? Could you accept that some people
will not work at all, they will just be lazy.. if you can accept those people then nothing
stands in the way for a better society
In the society of today we are ruled by big sums of money being
transferred back and forth over the globe, millions of people can lose their work
overnight, just because the profit was a few percent higher in some poor country were the
people are forced to work for a lot less money.
A moneyless society is a lot more stable and safe. It depends on the
daily doings of all of us, and nothing can force us to stop doing it, the only power in
the world is our own individual power
A few years ago, here in Sweden, a lot of nurses were sacked from
their jobs, for "economic reasons" of course.. The nurses wanted to continue to
nurse the sick and elderly people. the patients wanted them to work, the relatives to the
patients, and the whole swedish people wanted to keep our excellent health care.. but, the
economy said no, and there was nothing we could do.
In a moneyless society this could not have happened.
Let us liberate ourselves of this cruel historic ballast, let us start
the world all over, a new beginning for all of us, let's forget all trouble in the past,
let us forgive everything done under the old system. People where in a special historic
situation, they did what they thought was right then.. well, this is not much to talk
about, we were these people, we did those things, but the root of most evil was always the
money, so just forget it..
Let us learn to live and help each other without being forced to it by
the monetary system
Copyright and patent is another area which will explode in the
internet. in the next few years
We cannot go on with the patent laws of today, and we cannot replace
it.. If we abolish money there is no problem at all. Everybody, including inventors and
composers get all they need from society, so there is no need to hinder others from using
certain ideas
If everybody gets the same standard of living we do not need any
money.
Money was just a way for rich people to dominate and force other
people.
But now we have democracy, and if we abolish money our politicians do
not have to listen to rich people anymore, they will be free to really make the world
better. Today even good politicians are forced, by the monetary system, to make bad
decisions.
It is time now for the next big change on earth
We will abolish the money-system, because it creates a lot more
trouble than it helps, Because it is unfair, historic unfairness is permanented in the
monetary system, Because it is time to be a free individual for all of us. We can do that
a lot easier without the restraints the monetary economy puts upon us.
The real economy, which is about resources and people, is hindered
today, in millions of ways, If we stop using money the real politics will work, when it
does not have to think about money all the time.
The money was a method for the rich to control people, it has many
negative effects in itself, a very bad system for a society,
If we abolish money most of our troubles will disappear immediately,
and the remaining problems will surely be easier to solve when we do not have to think
about money, investment capital, profits..etc.
It is also a fairness towards the poor countries in the world, if we
abolish the money these countries will no longer have enormous debts to pay
It would create freedom and equality for women all over the world,
better chances for poor people everywhere
Those are just a couple of examples, I hope you can imagine the rest
for yourself.
This is a totally peaceful and pacifistic movement. We could never do
this without the majority of the people being for it, and understanding it.
So we must spread understanding of this reform, explain to everybody
that this is possible, and how they can help make this historic process as fast and
painless as possible
What is the role of the politician in the money-less society? The same
as now, but he does not have to think about money anymore, and the political decisions are
often just suggestions, it is the people themselves who decide if they want to follow the
suggestions
The role of the journalist? The same as today, no money to think
about, but still there will still be lots of things to take up in the news
What happens to big companies, like microsoft, in utopia? The same as
today, but with no monetary implications. Microsoft is an organization of programmers,
layout people, etc. They can, and will, go on working on better programs. But people will
work there because they want to, not because they are paid to.
So we can see that all sensible people and organizations will be happy
in utopia, only blind greed and stupidity could stand on the other side.
People who today have shares in companies or other investments have
invested their money because: 1: They want more money, and/or: 2: They are responsible
industrialists and are using their economic power to steer this world in a positive
direction. People of type 1 will have no interest in the companies anymore because the
economic interest is gone in utopia. Type 2 investors can still take part in the
development in utopia. Not with the power of money but the power in their reasoning, their
ability to think and explain.
The world will be organized through reasoning, not money power. Facts,
arguments and vision will count more than amounts of money.
Individual integrity is something we should think about. When we talk
about a society that rules itself, without money, some people may imagine a small scale
society, where all decisions are taken at low levels, each block would be a little empire,
ruled by the chatting women who have a lot of energy to spy on their neighbors and make
trouble in general for an individual who wants to be different
But we have gotten used to great individual freedom, and I do not
think we want to give that up,
We do not have to. It is easy to put the power a bit higher up in the
geographical sense, like we have it already.
Sweden is governed by the government in Stockholm, and the local
county authorities have their defined area of local politics. We just keep the system we
already have, and the individual freedom will be even greater in the moneyless society
than today.
Recipe: You have all heard the simplest recipe, just add water.. Well,
this recipe is just as simple: Just take away the money, and it will all be fine.
We have already built up the next system, now all we have to do is
take away the money, and voila, we're in heaven :-)
If you ever wondered why we have two power systems on earth, both the
political, and the economic, well, now you know, the economic power is the old system, and
politics, without money, is the new system.
Thank you Madonna, for making the word "material" into a
known term, now I can use it in "material equality" and most people in the world
will understand what I mean by that.
..cause I am a material girl..
Material equality can be achieved in many ways, for example with a
credit card system, but I think we can go directly to the end result, and abolish money.
Even if we decide to keep the money and use them to achieve material equality we would
soon realize that they are meaningless
If there is a limit to the value of the individual owning of capital
things, like house, apartment, car, boat, etc.,
And if every individual gets the same amount of food and other
daily-wares,
Then the money will surely be considered meaningless, and there is
simply no justification for keeping the money. It would be an incredible waste of time to
uphold a monetary system which is totally unnecessary.
Do we really need to force people around with the help of money?
Let us instead presume that people are intelligent beings who can take
care of themselves, and their world.
We want material equality, and if we abolish money at the same time
(because it will be useless anyhow), then we will get rid of an immense amount of trouble
in one single change.
Individual freedom, integrity and civil rights material equality in an open democratic
world.
