Jason Newstead (1986 - 2001)
Cliff's replacement and a hell of guy!...decided to quit the band by himself due to private and personal reasons. He additioned whilst still being a member of Phoenix metal group Flotsam and Jetsam. He later joined Metallica in the fall of 1986 and appeared on: ...And Justice For All, Metallica, Load, Re-Load, Garage Inc. and S&M.

Lloyd Grant
Lloyd Grant did the solos on the first demo, but he would never become a full member of the band, as Lars and Jaymz couldn't work with him. He later started a band called Defcon together with a guitarist called Patrick Scott who also did Metallicas lights the first years.

Mike
Lloyd Grant left and was replaced by a guy called Mike, who stayed for one week before being kicked out.

Jeff Warner
Jeff Warner was Metallicas 2nd guitarist when James only controlled the microphone. At this time they were a five piece band and did some gigs in May 82. Warner wanted to play double-lead with Dave, but he didn't let him, and at the end Lars and James kicked him out because they didn't think he looked cool enough. Jeff later joined the band "Black'n Blue".

Dave Mustaine
Dave was an old friend of James, he´s now the singer/guitarist in Megadeth

Ron McGovney
Played bass for quite some time before being replaced by Cliff, quit the band before James and Lars kicked him out.

Damien Philips
One appearance, in concert as a second guitarist.
