Declassified Satellite Photographs The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has begun distributing film negatives,
positives, and paper prints from declassified satellite photographs collected by the U.S. intelligence community
during the 1960's and early 1970's. All standard products are priced at the cost of reproduction ($8 - $18). The
sale of photographs to the public has begun with the initial transfer of 2,650 of the total 18,000 rolls of film slated
for delivery to the USGS from the Central Intelligence Agency. The entire collection of these declassified photos
will incrementally reach USGS National Satellite Land Remote Sensing Data Archive at the Earth Resources
Observation Systems (EROS) Data Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota by the end of the summer of 1996. The
online catalog will be updated daily as new rolls are added to the archive.
Digitized Sky Survey The Digitized Sky Surveys were produced at the Space Telescope Science Institute under
U.S. Government grant NAG W-2166. The images of these surveys are based on photographic data obtained
using the Oschin Schmidt Telescope on Palomar Mountain and the UK Schmidt Telescope. The plates were
processed into the present compressed digital form with the permission of these institutions.
Earth Images Images obtained from NASA and placed in digital format.
Galaxy Catalog A collection of images of 113 nearby galaxies assembled at the Department of Astrophysics,
Princeton University. All are large, bright and well resolved. Observations with CCDs are form Palomar
Observatory (31galaxies) and from Lowell Observatory (82 galaxies).
