Aggro – Short for Aggression. Monsters who will automatically attack you if you cross beyond a certain invisible threshhold around them. In EQ2, the names of aggro monsters are outlined in red. BTW, aggro monsters whose names are grey to you will not attack you, even though they're aggro. (I guess they recognize you're too strong for them?) Aggro is also triggered in non-aggro monsters when you attack them.

AFK – Away From Keyboard.

AFAIK – As Far As I Know.

Alt – Short for "alternate character," or another player character in your available allocation.

AOE – Area of Effect. Any ability that affects multiple mobs within a certain distance.

Auto On [Playername] – Indicate that you are auto-following the specified player.

Bio Break – Need to go AFK to visit the restroom.

BTW – By The Way.

Buff – To increase (usually temporarily) one or more of a character's skills using spells or special items.

Camp – To remain in a location where monsters or resource nodes are known to spawn.

Combine – A middle-tier component necessary for the crafting of an item by an artisan, composed of two or more components itself. Combines can be made by players or, in some cases, purchased from NPC merchants.

Con – Short for "consider." A system of colors and arrows used by EQ2 to help you determine the probability of your being able to defeat a particular monster or group of monsters. Additional details on "con'ing" are located in the Player Guide.

CoQ – Call of Qeynos. A spell that, when activated, transports you from wherever you are to a "safe" location in Qeynos. See also: CoO.

CoO – Call of the Overlord. Similar to CoQ, only for Freeport players.

DD – Direct Damage. Damage done instantaneously versus over time.

DE – Dark Elf.

Ding!  – Equates to "I have just leveled up!" Usually issued by a player after leveling up, such as, "Ding! Lvl32!"

DOT – Damage Over Time. Spells that, when cast, deal out damage to the target over a period of time rather than instantly.

DPS – Damage Per Second. Usually seen in requests for a party member who can deal out large amounts of damage per second, generally a magic-using type such as a sorcerer or a mage, but can certainly be other classes. Example usage, "Looking for MT and DPS for Firemyst Gully."

Evac – A spell or skill used to transport the group to the nearest designated safe location.

Exploit – A type of bug in the game whose unintended side effects or behavior is usually considered beneficial to players and/or play-unbalancing. Also used as a verb to describe the use of such bugs.

FD – Feign death.

FP  – Freeport.

Gank – Kill, esp. in PvP combat when "jumping" a player who is zoning into an area.

Gate – The Call of Qeynos or Call of the Overlord spells, which transport you to a safe location in Qeynos or Freeport, respectively. Also used to describe the Griffon-based travel portal towers located in outdoor maps such as Antonica (and possibly other outdoor zones). A sort of free, in-game "bus system" used to transport you quickly from one part of the map to another. Not to be confused with zone gates, which are portals between zones.

Gimp – A weak or poorly run character.

Grinding – The repetitious creation of necessary tradeskill components, esp. combines and low-level components required by higher-level recipes. Also used to describe the repetitious pulling and killing of monsters for experience points.

GTG – Good to Go. Indicates the player is ready, usually for a pull.

Guild – An organization of players formed for the purposes of trade, commerce, artisanship, prestige, and comraderie.

Gratz (or Grats) – Abbreviation for "congratulations," a kudo usually given by players to one whose character has just leveled up, found a rare item, or some other noteworthy event.

Group – Two or more players who have grouped together using the /Join command. The group shares the experience gains and losses and can share any loot dropped by mobs via a lotto system. (See also: "Raid.")

GT  – Give /Tell. Analogous to PST.

Haste  – A spell that increases a player's melee combat speed.

HO – Heroic Opportunity. A chain of attacks and spells that does bonus damage when followed in the correct order. Details of this feature are covered in the Player's Guide.

Inc  – Incoming.

Inky – A dark elf.

IoR – Isle of Refuge (aka. "Newbie Island"), the location your new character is dropped off at after the ship tutorial voyage and prior to going to Qeynos or Freeport. Mezz – Short for "mesmerize," a powerful spell that puts monsters to sleep.

Mob – One or more monsters of a type, such as gnolls, skeletons, or goblins. Originates from "mobile object," from the old MUD text based games from the early days of the Internet and BBSs.

MT – "Main Tank," or the most durable character in the party, the one with the highest armor class, and/or best melee weaponry. Their job is to to serve as the attack focus of the monsters and do the toe-to-toe melee combat, sparing less durable members from excessive damage and interruptions so that they can cast spells on the enemy, heal party members, and so forth. Usage example, "Looking for MT and DPS for Firemyst Gully."

Nerf – Actions taken by SOE developers to make a skill or exploit less powerful than before, or to change its behavior. (Probably originates from "Nerf" soft foam toys.)

NM – Never mind. Also stands for Named Mob/Monster or Notorious Mob/Monster.

Node – A pop-up item in outdoor zones that provides a harvestable commodity such as roots, logs, animal dens, ore clusters, and so forth. By harvesting a node (by double-clicking it), you have a chance to obtain one of the node's commodities. In the case of logs, for example, you might get severed elm or severed maple, with rocks you get ore clusters, and with animal dens you can get meat or animal pelts.

Tier – In terms of harvest nodes, indicates the level of that particular node on a scale from 1 to 5; 1 being the easiest for anyone to harvest, 5 being the most difficult. Tier 1 nodes yield relatively common and thus, less expensive components and are located in relatively safe "newbie" zones while tier 5 nodes yield rarer, more expensive, and desireable components, but are located in more dangerous zones. The higher the tier of the node, the higher your skill must be to harvest that node. For example, while anyone can harvest the tier 1 nodes in the Oakmyst Forest in Qeynos, your particular harvest skill must be at least 40 to harvest the tier 2 nodes located in Antonica. (That is, to harvest tier 2 ore nodes in Antonica, your Mining skill must be 40 or greater.)
