Engine Bay and Pop-ups

The engine bay is finished and it's time to replace the bonnet.
Space is always at a premium on a Lotus. I had to file down the lower corner of the bonnet catch to get some clearance between it and the brake fluid container.
This picture shows the shape of the inner pop-up mounting point on the original body. Compare that with...
... the shape of the new body. Unfortunately Lotus had cut away too much material to make room for the pop-up connecting rod. This, combined with the fact that the shape was probably missing one layer of glasfibre, made the entire construction kind of flimsy. This in turn resulted in that the entire nose bulged when the springs were first connected.
The problem was resolved by glasfibre reinforcements. Here the springs are replaced and a board is used to protect the nose in case something would go wrong.
