Caught my first pike on a fly rod by a mistake. This was back in 1986, and the bastard ate up a favourite zonker trout fly , and left me with a strong desire to pursue these water wolves.
Since I’ve done surgery on hundreds of pikes in many sizes, some even did some surgery on me as well.
Pikes has been my darlings ever since, and 80 % of my fly fishing goes for pikes.
In the early days I had good pike waters nearby, and the evolution in my flies took me from small 3" streamers to 10" monsters. Now most of the time is spend with something in between, and most of my flies are light, flashy and non-soaking streamers tied on hooks from 1/0 to 6/0.
My season for pikes goes from January to December, with late fall as the favourite time of the year.
The action of fly fishing for pike is wonderful, and nice bonuses to it all – there’s no need for an early rise. Catch pike all day – celebrate all night…
