The route

Africa

This trip will start in South Africa in the beginning of January 1998.
We will start in Johannesburg where Gael and Jacques have been working.

Here follows the preliminary route in a very short version

South Africa

In SA there will be summer holidays at the time when we begin travelling. So, consequently the east coast will be crowded, while less people are at the west coast.

Namibia

Will not be the country we spend most of the time in.

Botswana

Two options: Visit the centre of the country where it
is a big reserve that can be visited by 4x4 only and where you wouldn´t meet
anybody, the camp site is a sign on a tree and nothing *else* more. The other option
is the Okawongo delta (expensive and fascinating).

Zimbabwe

Kariba Lake is said to be beautiful.

Mozambique

Beira perhaps, to check the Indian Ocean.

Malawi

The country that got it´s name from the biggest aquarium in the world,
Lake Malawi, say no more....

Tanzania

See the big five, Lake Victoria, and why not hike the Kilimanjaro, now
when we are around.

Kenya

The end of our stay in Africa, and what an end...
After about 3 months we will reach Mombasa, where the boat wait for us to go to
the big, wonderful, kaotic, and exciting country in the east, India.

Asia

India

Bombay will be our first sight of India.
Five places that we hopefully visits: Elephanta caves, Ajanta Caves, Ellora Caves, the Buddhist monument in Sanchi
and of course the Taj Mahal, which all are parts of the World Heritage sites.
We arrive in India in the hotter period of the year, so whoever is driving will probably be heavy on the right foot, to get us going to the cooler "roof of the world" -Himalaya.

Nepal

Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world.
Wild rivers.
Hiking.

Tibet

Tibet and Mongolia are our wild cards. Will we be allowed to pass in to the countries with
the Landie? If someone can give us a hint how to accomplish this, please give us a note

Russia

As if it would not be to much with cultural shocks for us in Africa and India, we are planning to drive through Russia on our way back to Europe.

Finland

Almost the end. If we aren´t too tired of Russia we might skip this country for the Russian road up to the Kola peninsula. If you keep on visiting this site, you know our choice around July.

Norway

The country of North Cape.
The northenmost country in Europe. When we reach North Cape we will be as far north as you can get by car in Europe. Even with a 4X4.
Our major goal is reached.
