RAM

RAM

RAM, Radio Alias Maker, is a small tool that greatly simplifies the creation of map specific aliases in Quake 2 configuration files. It was especially made with Action Quake 2 radio messages in mind.

As the keyboard doesn't contain enough keys to comfortably bind maybe 5-10 keys for each individual map, the only remaining option is to create aliases that lets you choose which map you're on, and creates key bindings appropriately. So a given key is bound to different things depending on which map you're on.

This is very tedious work, and lazy as I am, I decided to write RAM, that does it all for your :) It's free and open source, and downloadable below.

Download

Before you download, you should know that RAM requires a functional Java Runtime Environment compatible with JDK 1.1 to run (this includes "Java 2" as JDK1.2 is called by Sun). This is a stand-alone application, so it's got nothing to do with applets, and having a Java enabled web browser is not sufficient to run RAM.

After downloading and unzip:ing the file (using the JAR utility that comes with the JDK, or any other ZIP capable application suitable for whichever platform you're on), read the README and follow the instructions (provided that you know how to run Java apps in general, there's nothing to it).
