Requirements top of page

Browser

This site should be viewable with any browser, including (but not limited to) Netscape 4.x and Internet Explorer 4.x or higher. This site uses HTML 4.0 and CSS1 style sheets, so you should have a browser that supports style sheets.

Java and Plugins

  • This site does not use Java, but it may use Javascript in some places.
  • This site does not require any particular plugins.

Frames

Ahh yes. This is a little tricky.

This site, in general, does not rely on frames. However, on the encyclopedia page there is an option to "Add index frame". That link (hopefully) adds an extra frame at the bottom of the window, containing an A-Z index for quick browsing of the encyclopedia.

The best way to use this feature is to have two windows open: one that you use for normal browsing of all pages on Le Guin's World, and another window containing two frames: the A-Z index and the encyclopedia.

How to use the frames feature

  • Close all but one browser window. (Because of possible naming conflicts)
  • Go to the "Encyclopedia" and click "Add Index Frame" Then only use that window for the encyclopedia.
  • Open another browser window (e.g. Netscape "New Navigator Window") Then use that window for all other viewing.

If you have no idea what I am talking about you probably do not need to worry too much about this feature.
