History

In the areas of Oskarshamn, there has been found traces of human settlement from about 5 000 years ago. Before the village got its town charter it was called Döderhultsvik. The village was almost totally burned down in 1677 during the war against neighbor-country Denmark. The first commercial shipbuilding is dated to 1695.
