Campo di Marte - "Campo di Marte" (1973)

A very good album! Every track here has a mood and a sound of its own making this album sound very fresh and interesting. Not much is known about the band but their selftitled oneshot album should please everyone into italian progressive rock (and others too of course).
There are seven tracks here and they are simply named "Primo Tempo", "Secondo "Tempo" and so on.
Well, Tempo #1 starts with a fuzzguitar, contrasting aggressive and heavy parts with calmer ones. Great track, the singer is very good also. Loud guitars with more relaxed themes to be found here. And it has a lot of nice melodies, flutes and mellow tunes in there.
#2 features acoustic guitars, flutes and horns. It is a very beautiful and short instrumental track. Nice contrast to the previous harder track.
#3 begins with a very frenetic and short guitar solo(!) before a piano melody introduces the main theme. Fom there the track builds up in intensity, lots of changes and energy here. Awesome track.
#4 starts with an organ theme, sounding like a fast classical piece. Its another short and instrumental track that is based around the organ. Ends with a acoustic guitar melody, ressembling the main theme from #2.
#5 is my favourite track here. First the acoustic guitar opens, then comes a flute and yet another flute, building up a gorgeous and very 'catchy' melody. Mellotrons, flutes, acoustic guitars, this track has it all. And a theme that is so good. The track is very symphonic and has a slightly psychedelic edge. Its symphonic baroque rock!
#6 has a sinister sounding melody, its a great contrast to the previous #tempo. When another main theme kicks in after a couple of minutes, the track really smokes. That theme is played first by (electric) guitar, then horn, in turns. Very nice! Its another little masterpiece from this album.
#7 opens with the main theme from #5, then sort of contains all kinds of nods to many of the other tracks also. Lots of changes, flutes here and there, horns, and slowly it fades...

Well, to sum it up, this is yet ANOTHER of what seems to be a never-ending-stream of competent and high class italian albums. It has a lot of different moods, every track is unique in its own way. Highly recommended and guaranteed to please you if you're into and search for that classic italian progressive rock.
