CHRYSLER ENGINES!

Chrysler Corporation was the first in 1951 the build the V-8 with Hemi Heads! The 331ci was produced 180 hp! The Engine grown to 354 cid and 392 cid and the HP was up to about 400 HP. But this Engine was very expensive to build! So 1958 they introduced " B" Block Engine. This Engine was produced in 350 and 361 cid. The Different was in Bore and Stroke. And there was a possibility to use this block to even bigger CID. The 350 were an Option in Plymouth and De Soto . 361 were sale as the " biggest Engine " and the HP was around 300 SAE .

As an Option came Fuel Injection. The System was Called " Bendix" . But most of these Engines don’t work, as they should. But in the following year 1959 was 383 cid Engine. The bigger CI was just Bore. The big news was 413 Engine who was put into many Imperials, this Engine replace the older 392 cid Engine. The Engine gave about 350 HP. ( This Engine was in Option with 2- 4 Barrel Carbs. and gave 380 HP.

1960 take Chrysler the first step to a " Factory - High Performance Engine" . It was and Option Package , in the Chrysler 300 . On a Huge Air Intake was put 2 double 4 Barrels Carbs. It was called " Long Ram Intake " . It was something to see .

The Car Producers in Detroit began back in 1961 evolved in drag racing one way or another, its so-called " Super Stock " period, was about four year! And you could say that Chrysler and Dodge " take it all " on the Strip. It was time for the " Ram charger " Engine. And Plymouth called the same Engine " Golden Commando ”! A Much of different could be found, The Heads and the valves was bigger, the air intake channels was bigger, new camshaft, bigger oil channels, and a impressive exhaust (cross ram) are just some of the things! This "Max Wedge" Engine was constructed in two Different versions, 410 HP and the 415 HP.

In 1963 they introduced 426 Max Wedge 2, the HP was now 425 HP. But the biggest news was that this Engine was put into much Lighter Machines, Dodge Polara and Plymouth Savoy was made with the front in Aluminium. Much more light Weight!

The Model Year 1964 was the 426 " Max Wedge 3 ”, they say it was 415/425 HP, but everybody knows it was much more! Chrysler built a street 426 Engine, 365 Hp, and it was called " 426-S ". And they Coast 500$ more, But all this engine was fast forgotten. A New 426 Should Introduce.

1966 years models were a very Historic moment ! The 426 race Hemi Engine should be sold to streetcars!!!! And the name " The Street Hemi " was born ! In Coronet , the new Charger and Plymouth Belvedere was this 426 Hemi to bye for the street ! They used the classic 425 HP strong Engine ! Soon all should know that it was more! They did a few modifications, as in 1968 with a wilder Camshaft, and in 1970 with hydraulic lifters. They sold about 10.000 street Hemi Engines! And it was 800 to the racing! And when this engine was born I don’t think anyone doesn’t have heard about this engine. The Drag racing People were doing success with it in any kind of car or Dragster. So a True Legend was and is this Engine!
