Sirius Sightings

Have You notices that Sirius, this little two minute tune by The Alan Parsons Project, has a tendency of showing up every now and then all over the world. Parsonians call these Sirius Sightings. For example:

The Chicago Bulls NBA basketball team is using "Sirius" as a serious :) team-introduction music (source: LaLa (Imre Olajos, Jr.)).

Alright, another "sports sighting": on Sun, 07 Nov 1999 Hyung-Wook Kim wrote:

Hello,
I heard a "Sirius" by chance in a Japanese Pro-baseball game this 99 seasons.
The team that used that song is "Lotte Chiba Marines" in a pacific league.
They used that song when player entered the batting box.

I'm Korean but I enjoy watching Japan baseball games.

Bye....

Sirius seems to be a very popular song among basket and hockey players. Chicago Bulls isn't the only team using the song. On Wed, 15 September 1999 Alan P(ettigrew) wrote:

Hi, my name is Alan Pettigrew. I am from Ottawa, Ontario in Canada. The
Ottawa Senators Hockey Team use Sirius when they come on the ice. Just
thought I'd report another sighting. Thanks.

I followed APP back in the early 80's.....

Anyway, I thought I'd add that Duncan Mackay, who played a couple of APP albums did a single called Sirius III/The Serious Side of Sirius III (UA UP 36369). I have a second hand copy (I haven't played it), but would happily swap for Duncan's Witches/Spaghetti Smooch single.

Stephen

...and when I asked if there were any similarities between Sirius III and Sirius:
I've listened to Sirius on "Eye in the Sky" (written by Eric Woolfson & Alan Parsons, published 1982) and Both sides of the single (written by D Mackay, published 1978). There is no obvious similarity.

According to my Rock Record book (not always 100% accurate), Duncan Mackay was on "I Robot" (1977), "Pyramid" (1978) and "Eve" (1979) - you might want to check this. I would say that this was the classic period for APP - it seemed to go down from there, and that last album I bought (at a reasonable price) was "Turn of a Friendly Card". However, for old time's sake I also bought "Ammonia Avenue", "Vulture Culture", and "Stereotomy" on cassette, because they were going cheap. Sorry I am no longer an avid fan. I am, however, searching for Duncan Mackay's "Score" album and the single I mentioned.

Anyway, it seems that Alan may have heard Duncan's single and the title stuck in his mind? There seems to be no musical plagiarisation.

Best regards
Stephen

     Hi Everybody!

I a big New York Mets fan.  While listening to the game today against the
Cincinnati Reds, each time the Mets were threading to score a run, they
played Sirius.  To my knowledge, I've never heard them play an APP song over
the loudspeakers at Shea Stadium.  Pretty cool!  BTW, the Mets won 5-3.  Only
5 games out of first and 1/2 game from the wildcard.  I can have my cake and
eat it too:  APP and the Mets.

The       radio ad for this years' fireworks is using Sirius as the background music.      I'm sure that Sirius will show up again during the fireworks. I'll update      again      (the first show is on Saturday).      Cheers              OBB
