7-Januari-2003

Sorry about the apparant lack of updates. Again. During this time I have acquired a Videopac Samurai game (#15), Space Monster (#22) and another Quest For The Rings (#42).

8-October-2002

Sorry about the apparant lack of updates. There are other sites that have most of my time. During this time I have acquired a Videopac Skiing game (#22), a Philips CD-I with a pair of games, an really old IBM portable 386 PC and a Atari 1040ST and some more games for my VirtualBoy. Stay tuned!

A new classic text in the library. This one is the oldest yet. Publiced 1968 in Communcations of the ACM the article by Edgar W. Djikstra, one of the computing forefathers who died recently, tell us withut doubt why Go To statements should be avoided when programming.

The summer vacations is over, and the time has come to start make an earning again. During the summer I have read five e-books on my Palm. Perfect to bring to the beach, and using the background illumination you can even read at night. I

Two new classic texts in the library. One is the GNU Manifesto by Richard M Stallman (read the biography by Sam Williams) from 1985. This marks the start of a project that have given us GNU/LInux and other tools to fight Microsofts dominance.
Stallman talks about Free Software ("free as in freedom"), but Eric S. Raymond introduced Open Source as an alternative. You should read his The Cathedral and the Bazaar, an essay about Open Source and why it works.

Thanks for signing the guestbook, Liza and Dakath. Always when you put some effort in a homepage, you really want some feedback after all.
Three new books in the library. Two written by Douglas Adams, Last chance to see and The meaning of Liff. Both are non-fiction, and Liff is more of a dictionary. The third book, Starship Titanic, is written by Terry Jones (of Monty Python fame) based on a scenario by Douglas Adams.

A long time has passed since last update. I have been busy with other sites, so this one has been neglected. Sorry.
The e-book library has been updated at last. First of all, five books by Orson Scott Card in his Ender universe. Powerful reading where the two first volumes won well deserved Hugo and Nebula awards. Secondly the brand new biography by Sam Williams about Richard M. Stallman, the original hacker that practically invented Free Software and is the brain behind GNU.
(The man in the heading is NOT me! It's an model. I'm ugly :-)

18-March-2002

Added Videopac #24 Flipper to the retro page.

11-March-2002

Added some new retro games that I recently aquired. Videopac #52 Killer Bees and four cartridges for the Sega Megadrive; 688 Attack Sub, Hardball, M-1 Abrams Battle Tank and Star Control. The Megadrive games are for trade, and at least Star Control is a rare item.

The great service Coola has shut down.
If you have used Coola, like I have, you know what a great utility for us Palm owner it was. If you haven't used Coola, you really missed something. I hope that something similar will show up in the future. Meanwhile, try BluePaste which is almost as versatile as Coola.
Now, lets see how long AvantGo will hold out...

I have opened not one, but two new online stores! Apart from the previous Game&Watch, you can now choose between Space Invaders and the classic Atari 2600 joystick. All this thanks to Cafepress. More retrogear is on its way, so stay on this channel!

19-February-2002

Collecting old computer hardware is one thing, but sometimes you need some old software for them as well, or just want to play with an old game that is fondly remembered. One way is to search for "abandonware" on Google, another (and much more rewarding) way is to visit Home of The Underdogs. Do it!

14-February-2002

Happy Valentines Day! Today is the premiere for my first online store! I can offer a line of merchandise inspired by Game & Watch thanks to Cafepress and their system. But it doesn't stop there! There will be more stuff with retro designs inspired by other classic videogames. Next up is Space Invaders so stay tuned!

12-February-2002

Another piece of computer history is added to my collection. A HP150 Personal Computer from 1983, which is in fact the first personal computer with touchscreen.
Another Videopac game has found its way into my hands, #53 Nightmare, which is a rare Videopac+ game. These "plus" games takes advantage of the updated hardware in the G7400 console.

No new content, but I would like to mention the excellent utility Pilot Install. Pilot Install can put PRC, PDB, PQA, PIA, MID, and TXT files on your Palm without the need for a HotSync. Features include TXT-to-DOC conversion during upload, MIDI-to-Alarm conversion during upload, and USB (Visor) support. And its freeware! Great stuff! Get it!

22-January-2002

Another day, another book in the e-book library. Childhoods End by Arthur C. Clarke. A classic sci-fi from 1956. Also introducing another of the sci-fi masters, Isaac Asimow, and his I Robot collection from 1950. The work the defined the three laws of robotics.

21-January-2002

I have found out that Peanut Press is now Palm Digital Media, and PeanutReader is PalmReader. Same software, new owner. It's a great reader (but their MakeBook software could be modernized) so check it out.
Douglas Adams maybe gone, but his writing will live on. The two books about his holistic detective, Dirk Gentle, is available in the e-book library.

17-January-2002

Happy new year! First update of the e-book library since October last year, but it's the biggest so far. Go get it! I have more books in store, so there will be more updates real soon now. The e-book library is also updated with three texts in the areas Cyberpunk Essays, Other Fiction and Classic Textfiles.

I'm back with two new books after a relaxing vacation. Heinlein's maybe best work, The Moon is a harsh mistress, and another Michael Crichton, Timeline. Read and enjoy!

5-July-2001

The library is not complete with only 2001-A space odyssey, so I have added the complete series, 2010, 2061 and 3001-The final odyssey.
I will now go for a well earned three week vacation, and I hope that your summer will be warm and restful. And if it's rainy, you just have to download a few books and snuggle up by the fire with your Palm :-)

4-July-2001

A classic sci-fi novel has been added to the library; 2001-A space odyssey. Arthur C. Clarke's masterpiece from 1968 which was turned into film by Stanley Kubrick.
And while you are here, write something in the guestbook. I would appreciate it! Thank you.

21-June-2001

A Robert A Heinlein book added, Starship Troopers from 1959. Those who know Heinlein's work recognize him as a bizarre sort of principled right-wing libertarian/anarchist who believed strongly in individual responsibility, corporal and capital punishment, free thinking, mother-son incest, and the social equality of men and naked, sexually voracious, large-breasted women. You have been warned...

20-June-2001

Three more texts for you to download and read! First two classical sci-fi books, The Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton and the funny Bill, the galactic hero by Harry Harrison. Also a classic textfile that goes under the Operation Sundevil heading, Steve Jackson Games Top 10 Facts. Gentlemen, synchronize your Palms!

19-June-2001

Sorry about the delay in updating, but real-life(tm) must be prioritized before virtual-life, right? No? :-)
Anyway, I have added a great short story by George R.R. Martin, Sandkings. A horror/sci-fi novelette that won a Hugo Award 1979. I highly recommend that you read it!
A full-length book as also been added, Orson Scott Card's masterpiece Ender's Game, a sci-fi book that makes you think.

10-May-2001
David "Fargo" Kosak did forgive me! After replacing my homebrew copyright with a proper (c) GameSpy, the story is now free for online distribution. Thanx a lot Fargo!
I have also added another classic, VAXen don't belong in some places. A very funny warstory from 1989. I find it especially funny since I have myself worked with VAXen computers and in the same type of environment as in the story. Go read!
9-May-2001
David "Fargo" Kosak of the GameSpy fame have written one of his best creations and believe me, he usually write really good stuph! it was published on GameSpy yesterday, and I just had to make a PDA version of his short horror story, Palace Park, please forgive me Fargo...
8-May-2001

A couple of new palmsized e-books has been added, Triceratops, a short story by Kono Tensei, Metrophage by Richard Kadrey and a classic, The Last Castle by Jack Vance.
29-Mar-2001
I have added another three interesting titles to the e-book library, Dec Wars (a classic!), The Story of Captain Midnight and The Incredibly Strange Mutant Creatures who Rule the Universe of Alienated Japanese Zombie Computer Nerds (yes, thats the title :-).
And please, leave a message in the guestbook. I would really appriciate it.
22-Mar-2001
Allright, the e-book library has been converted to MobiPocket format, and a lot of new files has been added. Check it out!

20-Mar-2001
I have been looking in to converting TXT to PDB. Currently it seems like it is easiest to convert TXT to HTML and use MobiPocket publisher to make the e-books. That would mean that I scrap PeanutReader, but it is a pain to make TXT files look good in that reader. And MobiPocket publisher makes e-books for Microsoft Reader as well.
