Metriaclima sp. "msobo" Magunga
|
This small mbuna is very beautiful, but not very aggressive. There have been some mixtures with the name but this is the correct name.
The male color is black with dim horisontal neon blue bars, this would suggest that it may belong to the melanochromis genera, but its feeding behavior is defeneitly
the way Pseudotropheus feed.
This is a rather new cichlid but it is already rather common in the hobby, probably because it is sutch a big diffrence between males and females and its non-agressive nature.
In the lake
This atracctive mbuna is found at the eastcoast between Lundu and Ngwazi in Tanzania there are several diffrent geografical morphs.
It occurs in the zone between the rocky habitat and the sandier habitats.
As most mbunas it feeds from the biocover of the rocks but it also feed on plankton when it is avaible.
In aquarium
My fishes come from a place in the lake called Magunga, fishes from this location is mabe the most predominant in the hobby, maby because the females have a very bright yellow-orange color.
This small sized fish (7-8cm) is not agressive at all. It can be easily kept with other mbunas. I have two males and three females of thif beautiful fish. The male and female are easily distinguished. The females are brightly yellowish and males are black.
My male however had a grayish look (my undominant male has this color aswell) for a very long time untill he became really black.
