Metriaclima mbenji STAUFFER, BOWERS, KELLOGG & McKAYE,

The Mbenji island is one of the most isolated islands in lake malawi and therefore it inhabits
many endemic species.
One of them is the Red Top Cobalt Zebra (Metriaclima mbenji).
This species
has an extremely high procentage of marmalade cats and OB-females.
Infact the OB-females are much more common than the gray females.
In the lake
As all zebras Metriaclima mbenji feeds from the biocover.
There arent many zebra species around Mbenji island and none of them looks remotely like Metriaclima mbenji and this is probably why MC are this common, strange looking males are still recongniced as conspecifics.
In aquarium
This is a big zebra (up to 15cm), but it isīnt that agressive. I keep my trio in my 720 liters aquarium and the male usually doesent harm the females. My latest spawn gave approxmately 30 fryes, about half of them where males and about 4-5 of these where MC males,
an extremely large portion, typical for M.mbenji.
