This is an unusual book by Margit Sandemo. It is not a novel. In Swedish it is called "Vi är inte ensamma" and in Norwegian "Vi er ikke alene". (Both titles mean "We are not alone".) This is the story of our "guardian angels", in this book called "helpers". Margit Sandemo is, especially in Norway, considered an authority on the occult and over the years she has received many letters about people's encounters with their helper. She also claims to have a very close relationship with her own helper. At the end of the 80's she asked people to send her stories of their own experiences of helpers, a request which resulted in this book.
Everyone that have read "Häxmästaren" must be familiar with the concept of helpers. Every person is alloted his or her own helper at birth (maybe even before?). The helper is usually of the opposite gender and constantly walks by a person's side (or maybe in front of or behind the person). Without the person ever noticing the helpers presence (s)he tries to prevent bad things that may happen to this person. This book is a collection of stories about the unusual moments when someone has seen or sensed that (s)he has a helper by his/her side. There are also guidelines on how to find your helper and how to speak to him/her and ask favours (not too many!). There are also many of Margit Sandemo's own stories. She tells us about her own helper, who she knows is there for her, about helpers that she has "found" ("seen" or "sensed" may be better words) for other people, even about the helper of one of her pets! It is very interesting to read, even if you are a non-believer. And one of the stories seems to have something to do with Isfolket... |
