Geography
Golestan province stretches across 22022 sq.km comprising seven township, 16 districts and 45 rural
districts. According to the latest census of the year 1375 the population is about 1426288
people.
Golestan province is geographicaly uneven being clearly divided into into plain and mountainous region. Almost through out the state the ground slop reduces toward plain and the Caspian
sea.
From the Islamic primary centuries and before that , This region was the vastest and the most cultivated land located on the north part of Iran.
And up to seventh century was called Gorgan state and from the seventh to fourteenth was called Esterabade and from the point of archeology and historical trace has a history of 6000
veers.
Infact it is one of the oldest state of Iran and the center of main culture of Aryans in this region. In the past its extent alone was more than Mazendran and
Gilan.
provinces , and was compared with big regions such as Saadeh and kharazm. This province from the era of the Achaemenidae and after was systematically govern and was called Hirkany or Hirkania and was one of the most famous states in Iran in the era of the samanides along with some other states made a region called
khoorasan-e-Iran. By the arrival of Islam and the beginning of goldenera which had an important rule in blossam of Islamic culture and famous poets such as Abdolghaher
Gorgani, Saiyed Esmail Gorgani, Mirdamad, Mirfenderski and also Fakhrodin Asad
Gorgani.

Historical and Holy places
There are several historical ancient traces such as the remainder of the old town and ancient
hill.
The most important religious and historical places are:
Emam Zadeh Noor, Tourang Tapeh, Sardar Mosque, Dar-al-shafe mosque Agh ghala Bridge, Alexandr Dam, jame mosque and Agha Mohammad khan
palace.
Gonbad -e-kavoos:
The shrine of Ghaboos Ebn-e-Woshmgir from the era of All-e- Ziar with the hight of 15 meters is built on a high hill which makes its high 70 meters above earth leve, also considered as the highest Islamic break building in the world
The shrine of yah-ebnzaid is other sacred place which is visited by pilgrims of other cities of the
province.

The most important places are , the shrine of Makhtom-gholy - e - Faraghi , religious school of karim Eshan and Khaled Ebn-Nabi
