Which one of Colin Firth's many roles is YOUR favourite?
This is what some of his internet fans say:

The guy is a master in his craft and I have yet to see a poor performance.  It has to be Darcy though! /P

I think he is brilliant in all of his rolls and think it would be unfair to pick and choose.  It is a matter of how good the scripts are to how well he can consume his character. His role in Fever Pitch is completely the opposite to that in Pride and Prejudice and this shows in itself what a good actor he is. I think an actor is or should be defined by all of his work, collectively and not just one peice. He is very believable and gives his character such realism through his facial expressions and relaxed manor.  I am a great fan and like ALL of his work and will enjoy watching his productions for years to come. /B

Mr. Darcy, hands down. I think with this film, his works speaks for himself. He's absolutely amazing. /C

Pride & Prejudice, Another Country and Valmont. His face is so expressive.  You could feel the heat from across the room.  When he looks at another actor you could swear that he is really listening and nothing else seems to interfare in the scene. He can do anything with that face.  Its starts from his face all the way to his toes.  Fantastic Actor. And his voice.  That gorgeous voice.  I love listening to him.  This is my favorite actor. /C

Valmont. I could watch this movie over and over. His character is so real, he is so sly yet, you still hope he succeeds in seducing his quests. /MS

It's difficult to name just ONE role. I would have to go for Paul Ashworth in Fever Pitch, the comedic element is very endearing. Having just seen SIL however, this too is a good performance... but then which of Colin's isn't? /TT

I've just seen a few of his films because I'm writing from Hungary and they didn't play them here in the cinemas. People don't know him in Hungary at all. I think he was really charming and funny in "Shakespeare in Love". /V

My favorite is when he played Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, because I think that he portrayed that character really well. I actually had to read this book for school and was sorta interested in it. But then our teacher was also showing us the movie in the sections after we finish reading the part that went along with it. And it made the book more interesting to me. And it doesn't hurt that Colin was really cute in it either. :-)  /L

Birkin. A Month In The Country. What I admire the most about Colin's acting ability is that he allows his characters to take over. It is so rare in acting now a days. For example, there are very good actors like Kenneth Branagh and Daniel Day Lewis, to mention a couple of Englishmen, but every time I see them in a movie, I am completly aware that they are there playing a role. Colin, on the other hand, is basically not even recognizable in each of his movies. Valmont, Apartment Zero, Hostages, Nostromo, P&P, Femme Fatale ... are all great movies. However, his portrayal of T. Birkin is unsurpased. /CR

I love Colin as Adrian in Apartment Zero. The role is wonderful complex and unglamorous, yet incredibly compelling. There are so
many levels to Colins portrayal. Plus it was such a wicked film overall, it's one of my favorites, a cult classic./S

Pride and Prejudice (cause he is stunning) and Fever Pitch (cause he is hopeless...) /AA

Its difficult to make a choise between Paul Ashworth and Mr. Darcy. But I guess Darcy is my favorite! /L

Darcy, closely followed by Paul in Fever Pitch /AW

Darcy. I must say that I most admire Mr. Firth's knack for taking this emotional cripple of a character and making him so intriguing. He can do more with one look, one gesture, where others require pages of dialogue and emoting. /SM

I think - today! - that Stephen Whalby is my favourite Colin Firth role, because of the way he managed to communicate so much about such a limited, repressed person. He made me feel what Stephen suffers, made me feel his helplessness *and* his courage, which is a very difficult combination to convey, especially when it has to be done through a character who is not skilled at talking about himself. /S

Darcy is surely one of the most difficult characters to portray and Colin gave him such grace, romance, handsome features, and transformation, all with a silent, underlying pull that makes women everywhere long for him. /J

The Advocate- the intensity of this film. I loved his acting. Please don't get me wrong I loved him and P & P although, I saw different films first. /R

Mr. Darcy was surely his best role.  I first saw him in PP last december in my english class and have been a dedicated fan ever since.  Since that brilliant role, I've seen him in Circle of Friends, My Life So Far, and even a couple minutes of Shakespeare in Love.  He's great!  One look into his eyes, and you'll feel heart throb and swoon! /J

Pride & Prejudice. I think Colin Firth was such an extrodinary actor because within the same character (to me) he went from an unattractive jerk to a beaufiful caring man, with nothing more than a change in his facial expressions. Very talented actor! It shows a lot of depth to bring about a change like that. I'm very envious of his talent. /MMK

Valmont! The entire film is a masterpiece of humor, both light AND dark, and the innocent "wickedness" of Monsieur Valmont is played very well by Mr. Firth.  It is a wonderful showcase for his acting. /PQ

Darcy - Pride & Prejudice. Becauce he epitomizes the character so superbly. /JMcL

Valmont. I think he did beautiful job on it! I really liked his portral of Valmont better than John Malkovich's in "Dangerous Liaisons."/M

Birkin - It is such a "true" character, working through how to be himself in spite of the traumas he has suffered. /P

Pride and Predjudice was my favorite, It is also my favorite book. I also liked him in "Shakespeare in Love" He was very funny even though he was mean and stuffy. He has a certain quality about his acting. /LH

Obviously Tom Birkin. It's the best example of his subtlety and precision as an actor. /D

Robert Lawrence in Tumbledown. Colin Firth was just excellent. I became a massive fan after that. /P

Valmont. He's sexy, fun, and cheeky. He plays the role very well. /JG

My fav Colin Firth role was, as "Richard Courtois" in the Advocate. I have loved this talented actor and admire all his work, because he makes the characters come to life and put faces on each and every character he plays. Thank God for CF acting talents.  He is good./E

Tom Birkin. His performance is both subtle and emotional. /D

Mr Darcy. He was so believable. If you have read the book then you would see that he captures Mr Darcy's projected personality perfectly. /FD

Pride and Prejudice is my favorite film and watch it every other week as if it was my first time. Colin Firth's role as Mr. Darcy outshines any actor I have seen in this role and I think I've seen all Pride and Prejudice productions, beginning with Greer Garson and Laurence Olivere. /J

Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. Definately. The whole aspect of two characters despising eachother, but coming together in the end was very pleasing. The proposal Darcy offered to Elizabeth was very surprising. I also very much liked the way Darcy went from arrogant, and even rude ("She is.. tolerable i suppose... But not handsome enough to tempt ME..") to an actual human state ("you ve allowed me to hope as I never scarcely allowed myself hoping before, dearest, loveliest Elizabeth") Wow. Mr. Firth did a great job on this role, even though he self says it was not "his cup of tea." /M

Mr. Darcy. He is just so wonderful in that role. He IS mr. Darcy. His acting in that role is just great, and ohh yes, he is of course also incredible goodlooking as mr.Darcy. I watch P&P over and over again, I just can't get enough. I also thought he was lovely in A Thousand Acres, even though there wasn't much of him. I just bought Circle of Friends, and I agreed with myself that he is lovely in any role. /PS

Pride and Prejudice - Mr Darcy. He brought the role to life, more than anyone else could. Darcy is notoriously hard to play, but Colin did an amazing job. /KF

The film I have watched most recently is always my favourite so at the moment it's Matthew Field in The Secret Laughter of Women. All his films are favourites... They show his versatility, his acting skills and his beauty!! /H

Darcy . Everything - the way he looked on a horse, the looks he gave, the way he looked and acted. He was marvelous - those curls! Favorite films are"Pride & Prejudice",  "Apartment Zero" (very interesting with camera angles, etc.) and  "Three Days of Rain" - loved seeing him in person - 8 times.  He was so good as Ned. /A

It has not been one week since I have last seen Pride and Preudice, and I have come to the conclusion that Colin Firth is one of the greatest actors today.  Not only did he make everyone fall in love with his devilishly good looks but he really played his role, as I believe, Jane Austin had intended it to be played.  His every mannerism led the viewer to ponder "what is that Mr. Darcy going to say next?"  He disgusted us in the beginning with his rude behavior, but in the end astonished us with his profound transformation.  Mr. Firth's performance, for the lack of a better word, was breath taking.  Just like the novel, Colin Firth's Pride and Prejudice will undoubtedly become an undisputed classic. Bravo! Encore! /LJ

I LOVE Colin Firth in PRIDE & PREJUDICE. Mr. Darcy is the most amazing character, and the depth and accuracy that Mr. Firth protrays is spectacular. I also have a soft spot for Darcy - I understand him. /M

Fever Pitch, I can relate it to my own middle class English Family, my brother is a teacher, soccer mad, and his wife is also a teacher! /A

Richard Courtois because he has the great LOOK of Darcy, with an added raw sexiness. /PJ

I've seen no better actor portray Mr. Darcy so accurately than him. He is everything like the character in the book down to his walk. /LD

I had seen Shakespeare in Love, Circle of Friends, and The English Patient all without realizing his characters were all the same actor.  He looks so different in them all.  Then I saw Pride and Prejudice and HELLLLLOOO!   I now own 20 of his movies and am still collecting.  He's wonderful in all of them, but I guess P&P will always be my favorite, Femme Fatale is #2, and Valmont is #3 (John Malkovich - eat your heart out!).  Colin Firth does romance so believably.  I can't get enough.  I am anxiously awaiting his "Bridget Jones's Diary" with Renee Zellweger in which he plays Mark Darcy, whom the author created with the P&P's Mr. Darcy in mind.  I hope to see much more of Colin Firth.  /HC

Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. A favorite of mine since I first read the book. I had a vision of Mr. Darcy in my mind and it was De JaVu seeing the production. He literally came to life. It was a magnificent potrayal and my VHS is still being played since 1996. /CC

Pride & Prejudice. Because of Mr. Darcy. Need I say more? Seriously, I think the best way to express it is to tell how it was for me. I got the tapes in my mail, played them. Saw Colin and exclaimed "THIS is MY Mr. Darcy???!!!" After some hour I was completely smitten. Within the next seven days I re-watched P&P five times. Because of Colin's Mr. Darcy. And then I watched Shakespeare in love and yelled at Gwyneth for choosing Shakespeare and not Lord Wessex. I mean, please, what kind of choice was that? I am in constant awe of how Colin can play a multitude of feelings, etc, with just his face. I am staring at him endlessly trying to figure out how he does that. /J

Mr. Darcy - in a word, it was enchanting. He combined seriousness with charm, sensuality with shyness, and it just rollled together perfectly. /C

I loved him in Shakespeare in love. It was a great perfomance and I enjoyed every minute of it. /GI

I think Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, because it got me interested in the actor. Now I have most of his films on tape and follow his career as closely as I can./J

Mr. Darcy. He is so convincing as the proud, arrogant, mysterious Darcy./JG

Darcy in P & P. He is Darcy! I've seen most of his movies (some are not available to me thus far but I'm still looking) and know him to be a wonderful actor but I've never seen such a romantic portrayal of any character. Clark Gable in GWTW cannot rival Colin's Darcy. /JW

I love Colin Firth as Darcy. I think that he captured not only the person of Darcy (namely looks) but also his emotions. I felt that I knew exactly what Darcy was thinking just by one glance at CF's expression. I loved the way that his eyes spoke volumes, even when he was mute. I think that even thought I thought he was ugly in the beginning of the movie, and that he was a complete jerk, by the end of the movie my feeling were "quite the opposite." I could go on forever, but so could everyone! I love CF, he is my favorite actor!/N

Mr. Darcy, Valmont, Geoffrey, The Advocate- everywhere he is equally gorgeous dazzling you with his talent. /TN

Colin couldn't have played the role better than he did. He is Darcy (whether he believes it or not!!!) WONDERFULLY convincing!!!! /K

Mr. Darcy is my favorite Colin Firth role because it seems that role was made for him.  He played it perfectly.  In fact, I am in love with Mr. Darcy and so is my 65 year old Mum.  My husband and my children all know about Mr. Darcy and they haven't seen the movie.  I have a special sofa in my living room that no one but the cat is allowed to sit on and it is called the "Mr Darcy" sofa.  It is very formal and I am waiting for Mr. Darcy to visit me.  When he does visit, he will be invited to sit on this sofa.  No I'm not insane -- or maybe I am.  I love Colin Firth, but I think I love Mr. Darcy more.  I'm still patiently waiting for a period role similar to Pride and Prejudice.  If there would be a Pride and Prejudice sequel, I'd go absolutely crazy!! /AS

I have only seen 6 of Colin's films. They have all been excellent, but Pride & Prejudice is my all time favorite. Maybe because it was the first movie I ever saw him in, but from that time on I've been hooked. I can't get those beautiful eyes out of my mind and his voice just makes my heart melt! /S

I adored Colin in P&P as the arrogant yet soft hearted Mr. Darcy.  I have to admit, because this series was so perfectly adapted, I have become a Pride and Prejudice-holic.  I watch it everytime I have free time.  Colin was purely inspiring.  After the movie I went back to read the book and surprisingly (not like other movies), I understood the jokes and situations better.  This movie is definately the only one that has made me understand the original book more.  It is one of my all time fave movies, and I will continue to watch it till I am old and I will force my children and my grandchildren to watch it because it is not a movie to miss.  /MK

Well, my fave CF role is Mr. Darcy in P&P! I've seen him before this film but was I too dense to notice him.   My friends told me how good P&P was, and that the guy  who played Darcy was awesome! And I must confess, I  fell for both Colin and Mr.Darcy. Colin is a superb  actor! With the slightest shift of the eyes or the  smallest curve of the lips, he conveyed Mr. Darcy's  feelings completely. I've seen two other films of Colin's, and of course he plays his character to the  fullest! And for the record, he has the sexiest eyes and grin ever!/JLB

I first saw Colin Firth in the role as the handsome and mysterious Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy. It was actually the role I fell in love with, but then afterwords, I started noticing the man behind the character. He is really an amazing actor, I mean how he portrays Mr Darcy is just like I pictured him when I read the book, only better. How he manages to be proud and yet hurting at the same time. His body language tells us one thing, and the eyes tells something totally else. Love those eyes.  I've also seen him in "Circle of friends", "Nostromo", "The English patient", "Fever Pitch" and "Shakespear in love". He was great in all of them, but I loved Darcy the most. /M

Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice without doubt!!! I cannot think of anyone else playing that role but him!  If Jane Austen was alive, she would have written more novels just for him!  He was sensitive, gorgeous and played Mr.Darcy exactly as described in the book. I was so affected by his acting, that I cannot get over PP. Since then I have watched most of his films. He is a british treasure and such a talented actor!!!  My other favourite Colin' s roles include  Apartment Zero and A Month in the Country.  His acting was superb in A Month in the Country.  He was so young and good looking.  His sensitive portrayal of the character was remarkable for somebody with not much experience at that time!!! /SG

Shakespear In Love. He was different in that role, and made me relise that this actor is not only "Mr Darcy". /S

A Month in the Country. He's acting is so natural and crisp. The surpressed felings is most erotic. /N

Although I think he's great in any film, I just loved him as Mr. Darcy. /N

Colin Firth in Three Days of Rain, brilliant acting. /GG

1. Darcy - first time I had ever heard of Colin Firth. He was terrific. 2. "Three Days of Rain" - favorite play in which I have seen CF. Thought CF was very brave to play Nerdy Ned. Here he was adored by all these women and he chose to play a nerd and really did it well with his hair parted in the middle, slicked down, black-framed glasses on, a sweater on that was too tight and loud, and hunched over. When he told of his love, you could hear the whole audience sigh or groan in sympathy for the poor guy. Of course, my favorite CF film is P & P. But, I like his movies in which he has a lot of screen time like: "Month in the Country", "Femme Fatale", "Apartment Zero", "Wings of Fame". /A

"In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you" Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. This was the most distinguished sentence he said the whole film  Darcy, or Colin rarely talked in the film  however, his look, appearnce or even his absence was always important, he has captured all the attentions even in his silence. He was the best chracter the novel, and Colin brought into life. Jane Austen did never marry, I believe that might be, for she could never find someone like Darcy in her life. I have read the novel  yet I found the film more interesteing and exciting to watch. So, Pride and Prejudice is always the best./R

I have only recently discovered Colin Firth's work after viewing A&E's presentation of "Pride and Prejudice." His exceptional work in this film caught me completely off-guard, as did the fine performances of the entire cast. I have never seen a movie so beautifully acted by each and every performer. The reason that "Pride and Prejudice" is my favorite Colin Firth role is that his portrayal of Mr. Darcy was so beautifully and masterfully done. In a role that depends as much on what the actor does not say as what he does, Mr. Firth communicated brilliantly with his eyes, mannerisms and reactions. When he did speak, he delivered the enormously well-written dialogue eloquently. It had been far too long since I have found such a smart, witty, and wonderfully acted film. /EF
