Doom Metal
Doom metal, the heaviest form of metal today and its been that way since Black Sabbath invented it with their first album in 1970, here is a documentation of how it all came about and what have happened afterwards.
Ozzy/ Black Sabbath Reunion 97

With Sabbath the term heavy metal came up along with Judas Priest, both bands became the godfathers of a scene that started in the early 1980´s. In England around that time was 3 bands that should be mentioned here It was Witchfinder General, Angelwitch and Witchfynde all 3 bands were totally inspired by Sabbath especially Witchfinder General.

In America by the end of the seventies/ealy eightes 2 bands started to play that later would become the most important
  TROUBLE
figures in the scene, it was Saint Vitus from Los Angeles and Trouble from Chicago both started in 1979 and both started to play shows and recorded demos at the same time. For Trouble it went faster than Saint Vitus to get a recordingdeal, Trouble went for Metal blade and Vitus later with legendary SST.
Saint Vitus 1992
The underground fans in europe started to take notice of the two american bands and both bands went from strength to strength. In America the followers came mostly from the eastcoast from the Washington D.C area but the big influence on
  PENTAGRAM
these bands was a band called Pentagram who had recorded some singles back in the seventies.Bands like The Obsessed, Revelation were formed and the scene was expanding.

In Europe nothing really exciting happened until a band from Sweden took the underground scene by storm in 1986 Candlemass inspired by Sabbath and Trouble they brought out an album called Epicus Doomicus Metallicus and the Doom scene was a force to be reckoned with in the heavy metal field but still on a underground level.
CANDLEMASS
With Candlemass a lot of new exciting bands came up such as Solitude Aeturnus just to name one, more bands were formed by the late 1980´s both in europe and america and the Doomscene was getting bigger and the recordlabels was finally starting to take notice of it. In europe in the early 1990´s bands like Cathedral and Count Raven came along with important releases and more fans was brought in to the scene and more bands started to play.

Today the scene is really healthy and the Doomscene has expanded even more, its more bands coming up and the labels seems to be interested not all but some of them, the Doomscene unlike many other kinds of metal has a lot of entusiastics, different people that does everything for their favourite bands mags like Reflections of doom, Endtime etc. really supports also labels like Rise above and Brainticket just to name some of them.

I hope this article for all you newcomers to the scene will get you more intersted.
