This page is made for all you non-swedes who wants to be able to read the web pages that only support Swedish, the manual to your Volvo or just something else.
Thats why I have made up a short list of words that you just can't live without if you want to learn the basics in Swedish.



SWEDISH


Arbete = Means work. Swedes dont like it, don't mention it

Juttu = A stupid finnsh word, don't care about it.

Katt = A little stupid, very popular animal in Sweden

Fan = Ugly word. Often used combined with other swedish words like: "Kattfan", wich usually means that the Katt has done something in the livingroom that it shuldn't have done if it wanted to stay alive.

Frimärkssamling = Stamp-collection. Swedes has since the Viking-ages collected stamps as a hobby.

Hamburgare = McDonalds

Köttbulle = A very popular kind of food. It consist mostly of pig-ears and tails. Very popular together with pasta among students.

Nollåtta (08) = Somebody who lives in or outside Stockholm

Potatis = Its a small, stupid, round kind of root that swedes eat all the time. But swedes like it most when its in a liqudized form called Burn-Whine. A very common hobby in sweden is to make your own burn-whine.

Stuga = A little house in the country.

Sörpling = A noise that Swedes (mostly the old ones) make when they are drinking Coffe. It's their way to say "this coffe is good, but hot".

Tyskar = Germans who buy swedish products and help our economy.

Tysk-jävlar = Germans who keep the countyside alive through buying all the Stugas.

Vildmarken = A place full of mean snakes and boring trees.

Viking = Our early ancestors. The Vikings toured around the world and stole, robbed, raped and killed. Of cause are the Swedes VERY proud of them.
