about Sami legal rights |
Very
much on this Website is about legal rights. The experience I have
gained from my activities as a Sami lawyer has led me to become
increasingly concerned about the utility of present legislation
concerning indigenous peoples and minorities, and I believe that it
is important for both lawyers and for the Sami to be familiar with
these legal problems. Particularly important here is how legislation
relates to the needs and wishes of indigenous peoples and how the
rights of these groups, organizations and individuals can be
enforced and implemented.

name is
Lars Nila Lasko
and
I'm educated as lawyer and political scientist. I have worked as Notarius
Publicus in the
County
of
Norrbotten
,
Judge at the Court of Haparanda, Director of administration for a
Sami national association, Head of research-department at Nordic
Sami Institute, Director for Sami Parliament and researcher of law
concerning Indigenous People.
I
have had several missions for international organisations like
Advisor to the Fund First Nation in USA, Vice president of
International Association of Indigenous Jurists (IAIJ) USA, Member
of Administrative board of Barents Council, and missions also for
national State authorities as for example Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Agriculture, and have been
expert in several Swedish State commissions.
