OF GOLD FOIL FIGURES |
|
Slöinge Project
|
The size of the gold foil figures are generally 10x10 mm. The smallest ones are only c. 6x8-10 mm. Gold-foil figures have been found at just 35 or so places in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden; they are dated to roughly AD 500800. They are interpreted as votive objects, depicting human figures in various guises. The figures are generally considered to be an expression of a cult that was centralized in places where the political leaders resided. The results from Slöinge undoubtedly point in the same
direction. In Slöinge we can also see exactly where the gold foils were
deposited.
