The posthole fill are regularly wet sieved. The used meshes are of three types: 5, 3 and 1 mm. The finest mesh is motivated by the size of some of the specialised crafts. For instance glass bead manufacturing only leave insignificant refuse. An other example is the c. 1 mm wide and 2-5 mm long gold foils indicating the manufacturing of gold foil figures.

The sieving station is built in a slope to facilitate recycling of the water. The picture shows the two dams where the dirt is sedimented.

The construction is made as cheap and simple as possible. All the equipment (pumps, tubes etc.) is rented at the local construction firm. Material is bought from the timber yard.

The settlement area is regularly searched with different types of metal detectors in order to collect metals from the ploughed soil.

The site is also regularly surveyed by traditional field walking. Most of the fragments of glass beakers have been found in this way.

All plan documentation is done with a total station (Geodimeter/Spectra). A specially designed software for archaeological documentation has been used.

Registration of finds and excavated contexts (features, layers etc.) is part of the daily work at the excavation site.
